No notifications from E-mail

I get no notification that I have recieved new mail... I must manually refresh the email app and only then do E-mails show. Any idea how to turn notifications on and reviece emails automatically?

How do I know that? I have auto-sync off.

open the email app > menu > settings

again, open the email app > menu > settings > email > inbox check frequency > check frequency > every 5 minutes

assuming  that is the preloaded email app, which email app are you using?
