Hi guys,
Just got my new Xperia Z3, and the physical camera shutter button seems odd to me - wondering if this is a fault on my device, or just a strange design I'm not used to / wasn't expecting?
It has absolutely no soft click feedback unlike all the other buttons on that side of the phone, it just progressively moves further inward until its flush with the housing. Gentle pressure on the button performs the autofocus, but in order to activate the button fully (i.e. to wake the phone up into camera mode, or to take a photo), it seems to take a substantial amount of pressure. What I mean by that is that there's no way I would be able to push it without opposing force from the other side (i.e. strong grip), and when held like a normal camera, I have to squeeze it sufficiently hard that I can no longer quite keep the phone still (i.e. it moves or my hand starts to shake!) - which I'd have thought would make taking photos at night a nightmare!
Just interested to know how other people's work, similar experiences or is mine clearly different and I should get it changed?
Many thanks,
Greg

I'm not upto speed with the Z3 but from experience with the Z1 and Z2 there is normally a clicking sound indication the button has been pressed down and it doesn't require more than normal pressure - So if this isn't normal then I'd return my device to the place of purchase or contact Xperia care and have it inspected http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/

From your description, it sounds fine to me. The physical camera button is mainly dedicated for taking still images or taking photos underwater. It would require two hand or one steady hand. If the button was loose, then image quality using the button would be terrible since it wouldnt be stable. Anyways, from your description it sounds fine. It wouldn't hurt however to get it checked by a Sony service center.
Good luck and enjoy your Z3!
Thanks for the reply Thommo. Your reply inspired me down to the phone shop to confirm for myself what I was wondering. My phone is very definitely not right when compared to a normal one. The Z3 has a very definite two click level button (as did the Z1 compact and the Z2 on display that I also tried), that requires only a gentle pressure to activate each. Not sure how my description sounds fine at all now I've tried it on another phone!? Anyway, the woman in the shop agreed, as she actually struggled to even be able to press the button at all. I know you can get around using the button, but I've missed its existence on my HTC, and still images is exactly what I want it for.
EE are sending a new one out for tomorrow, taking away the old one at the same time. Fingers crossed for that one!
