needed help with charger for xperia z

hi ,

i am using xperia z

and unfortunately i have lost my stock charger. then i contacted the customer care and they told me that i needed to buy a EP880 charger. then when i went to purchase EP880 sony authorised stores told that EP880 is permanently discontinued and i had to purchase EP881 but on the box it says quick charger. and the sales person told me that now a days xperia z/zl is supplied with EP881 as stock charger.

i had read somewhere that using quick charger on daily basis could damage the battery(decreasing its life)

i have a blackberry charger whoes output is 5V and 700mA

i dont want my battery to be damaged

so what to do now?

get any other compatible charger or Ep881 or use the BB charger i already have

Thank you

The quick charger is not just a gimmick. By charging the phone with 1500mA instead of 900-1000mA the battery will charge faster but when comparing with other phones you also need to consider the mAh of the battery. The battery in Xperia Z is 2400mAh and will take longer to charge then a battery at lets say 1500mAh.

Also charging the last few percent will usually take a bit longer.

Both EP880 and EP881 are quick chargers and our quick chargers will not damage your phone or battery.

It depends on which phone and where you buy but but in many cases the charger that comes with the phone is a quick charger.

The charger you have from BlackBerry will probably work but it will take longer to charge the phone with 700mA.

So it was a myth that if you use quick chargers On regular basis it damages the battery!!
so what is the recommended output rating for chargers of Xperia z??
so can you confirm that Sony is providing quick chargers as stock chargers for z

if yes then I will buy the 881 from authorised Sony center immediately

thank you

so what is the difference between 880 and 881 ?

please anyone reply

That means the charger you've been using is a quick charger. In some countries (for example here in Sweden), the charger delivered with the phone is our quick charger.

As i understand it EP881 is the retail version of EP880. They have the same specification.

Note that you need to use the cable that comes with the charger if you actually want to use quick charging. Using another cable will probably result in charging time similar to that of a 900-1000mA charger.

There's really no recommended mA from what i can find. The phone will use the amount it can handle up to a certain level. The fact that a charger is specified to a high mA doesn't mean that it's "pushing" that into the phone. It's what it can deliver.

thanks Rickard,

i purchased EP881 it is nothing but EP880+EC802. The quick charger thing is just a marketting gimmick by sony.

it takes approx 2.5hrs to charge from 5-10% to 100%, then how can someone call it quick charger?

is this charging time normal?

It mostly depends on the adapter output.
