How do these differences affect the mobile data transfer speed?

They do not affect data speed. They affect frequencies

if you don't pick the correct phone model for your network, you won't be able to connect to LTE networks, therefor you won't have the highest data transfer speed.

that's the real answer, but take this example:

I purchased a D6653 which doesn't have the correct LTE bands for my country so it works only in 3G or H or H+, BUT, if you google a little that model is for asian/european markets and I get a lot of disconnections / signal loss / dropped calls.

I bought an xperia z3 during my travel to Asia as well out of need but during research I found little information exists explicitly on the Sony website about the existence of multiple models for the same phone. Unless I located and read the white paper I can't tell there are multiple models for me to even begin thinking and identifying the right bands needed etc. I'm having the same issue of several dropped calls and signal loss in H or H+. A $600 brick less than1 month old with several issues that Sony wouldn't do anything about. I also seem to have problems with all bluetooth hands-free devices now.

@hkrish it's not just Sony that has different versions, iPhones do too, Samsung, HTC lg etc
