i'm living this boring problem despite system repair...
sony must make a new uptade for choose this problem.
otherwise, lost of stamina mod is big sacrifice.
i'm 37 years old n z3c is the best phone i use until now; solve sony, solve
It seems that the problem is popping up more when people updates the phone to Android 6.0. I wonder if Sony has changed a sensitivity parameter in the sensor driver included in the new OS version.... for sure my sensor responds as being always on when I run the test in Diagnostics.
Have had this same problem for months now. First of all it was a little erratic, and sometimes view of call could be restored by quickly pressing power button a couple of times but then over last couple of weeks got to point where I couldn't get screen back from black at all, and it would only reappear when the connected party ended the call. Ironically didn't seem to happen in reverse so much (ie when someone was calling me). Like most of you, this whole business has driven me to the edge of insanity. I tried everything. Fiddled with settings, deleted and killed apps, you name it. Sony support no help at all, just making the obvious 're-boot', 'software repair' and 'factory reset' suggestions. O2, who I got the phone from (and it's still under warranty) were even less helpful, saying 'take it to an O2 shop and they will fix it'. Or replace it. Yeah, right. HOWEVER.... (dramatic trumpet blast) I think I've just sussed the problem!! It's not really anything to do with software. It's 99% caused by the hardware - namely the way the screen is attached to the body! And from what I've seen, this appears to be a particular Sony issue, going back some years, and I came across this info quite by chance...
What happens is... After the phone has been used for a while and got hot (either due to climate, dampness or having it switched on and regularly close to the heat of your ear, with all the warm moisture that involves) the glue/tape they use during manufacture seems to degrade and this causes the edges of screen to lift slightly from body. The effect of this in turn is that it screws with the function of the proximity sensor. Test this out. Just pinch the top left corner of your phone and if you hear a slight click, well there's the nub of it. I clicked mine down, made a call to my landline and would you believe, suddenly no black screen and everything working as it should! Of course fixing this (it soon pops up slightly again on either top corner) is another matter, but at least now I know the cause, and can save my teeth from further grinding 24/7. Hope this helps at least one of you on this forum anyway! 🙂
M sony sell bad hardware. This is second z3 compact with same problem. Also I had Bluetooth phones, they just suddenly stopped working on right earphone. Problem is on every one. Mediamarkt gave me two times new one. I will never buy anything from Sony again. No TV no PlayStation no phones no earphones no nothing. They even do not fix their problems they sold that,
Last Sony phone I buy I'm afraid. Screen goes Black when making calls and cannot fix. No support. Rubbish service. Back to Apple I go !
Shame on Sony !
Yep, It happened to me right after update(black screen). Tried everything, now in process of warranty claim, about to send back for repairs.
I will be without a phone for a week or so, cant see an offer of spare phone until mine arrives. sheesh.
::Update:: Found out sensor works wrong way around, hold my finger over sensor next to speaker and screen comes on???Diagnostic test constant vibrate.
Edit Edit: Update:::: Found out screen slightly raised at top left corner, seems to be coming unstuck like many other people who have same issue, very poor!! I look after my phones they better not expect me to pay for repair. read about alot of people being charged for new screen!!
Actually I don't think is from Marshmallow. I've been doing some tests and I think is about the plug-in area. If you plug it in for charging and move a little bit the jack the sensor's status is changing. That's why if you press gently on that area upper left on the screen the status also changes. So I'm afraid is a manufacture flaw. Sony should check that and change the way that sensor is fitted inside. Because of so many plug-in plug-out with the inevitable moves of the phone during charging, those parts inside are moved too in time. At least that is happening to me.
You can check the sensor status with any proximity sensor app from Playstore. I used this one
