i'm living this boring problem despite system repair...
sony must make a new uptade for choose this problem.
otherwise, lost of stamina mod is big sacrifice.
i'm 37 years old n z3c is the best phone i use until now; solve sony, solve
That's it for me.
I agree with bioman, I was already planning sending the phone (Z3 compact) back, but wanted to try removing the screenprotector, and it worked. No more black screens while making a call. I have had this problem for some time, before and after updating to 6.01. The screen protector is rather thick, but has openings on top, but even a slight misalignement has caused the black screen problem.

LE: Well, I guess the cause has revealed itself, at least for me: the screen has detached itself the upper-right part so I believe that messes with the sensor. The glue Sony uses must be cheap. Pretty incredible for a brand like Sony for a premium model to have the screen detached without dropping it or sink it in water or anything after only 1 Year of using. And it was supposed to be waterproof. Now I try the service, otherwise, Samsung. That's it for me.
Count me among the many who mysteriously encountered the black screen of death. Sony Suppot (USA) MAY repair it ...if they feel that I haven't abused the phone...you know by using it. During this hit or miss repair I will be using an old Samsung Captivate Glide that seems to never have screwed up despite its age. I have a feeling that my screen is coming away like some others have reported.
A pox on this company and its fragile phone. It was touted as waterproof (no more!). It was supposed to last 2-3 days between charges (no more since MM). I really loved the concept and the footprint of the device. Nothing but trouble for the (nearly) year I've owned it.
I will try ONE more software repair, then it's off to the repair black hole for a month.
Humbug I say
No real answers to any legitimate questions
Update: Spoke with Sony Technical Support USA. Proximity sensor failed two different diagnostic tests + the ambient light sensor is palying holy with using the phone in landscape mode in direct sunlight (). End result is a warranty repair. In the down time, I have secured a Z3 as my backup....so I will be probably bothering THAT forum as well.
Sony Support was courteous and professional. I'm still disappointed that the phone would begin deteriorating physically in under a year...it's had a case, etc to protect it.
We'll see how the repair experience goes.
When i start dialing a number or i accept a call my screen turn off and i can't lay the call or even unlock the phone even if i try to unlock it with a button... Do you anybody know what's wrong with it?

You may have a balky proximity sensor like I do. Go to Settings --> About Phone -->Diagnostics. Go to the Tests tab and scroll down to EAR Proximity. Run the test and see if it passes/fails
Another test for the proximity sensor is reached via the keypad:
Enter *#*#7378423#*#*.
Tap Service tests > select the service you want to test.
And test the proximity switch.
See that the results are and let us know.
Our second Z3C has now developed a problem. After the way we were shafted by Sony recently when we sent the other unit for a WARRANTY repair, this one is not going anywhere near their lying 'engineers'. If a solution is not found to this unit now then I will be taking legal action against Sony for the full cost of the unit AND the money they took from us for repairing the other unit, despite it being covered by the warranty.
My daughter initially requested a phone with a good camera that was also waterproof. So we got the Z3C for Christmas for her. We were so impressed by it that we got one for the wife (the one that's now developed an issue). However, it wasn't long before daughter's developed a crack down the back, despite it only been in her pocket that day ... a common problem it seems. I thought the back was plastic until 6 months later when it developed a fault with the power button. By that time we'd put both phones in silicon cases to protect them. It was only then that I discovered that the back was glass. Yes, Sony, it looks cool but who was the chimp who thought of that design feature? The one thing that gets replaced most often in phones is the front glass. But guess what? You thought it would be a great idea to put glass on the back as well! Brilliant! And to top it off, it looks like it's far weaker than the one you put on the front. Gorilla glass at the front, squishy roadkill glass at the back.
And it certainly looks to us as though your 'engineers' decided that they could get away with claiming that the faulty button was caused by the same thing that caused the crack, notwithstanding the fact that the fault occurred 6 months later and that the rear glass is likely to crack if you sneeze too close to it. So you decided to charge £125 for the privilege of reneging on your warranty obligations.
And don't even get me started on the port covers. Another poor design. Yeah - the phone might be waterproof when it's brand spanking new but those rubber seals aren't going to seal much after a few months of constant use. Not only that but the covers are choking hazards for small kids and puppies because they're not anchored to anything. They can be pulled off with little effort.
And now we come to the problem with the wife's phone. Yet another common problem from what I've read - the proximity sensor is always on, so the screen goes black whenever a phone call is made or answered, rendering the phone unusable. Yes, I've tried blowing around the area. Yes, I've tried gently pressing on that area. Yes, I've done a hard reset. No, it still isn't working.
Any other ideas?
I'm sorry to hear about your issues, I'm a bit confused, is your issue the
power button?
cracked back panel?
proximity sensor?
or wear and tear ?
