Hi @lixartor,

I am not personally very familiar with audio, but according to the whitepaper the Xperia XZ Premium has LDAC. I hope that helps.

We don't currently have any information to announce about any new phones.

Sadly it's the standard DAC from Qualcomm. To advertise this as superior audio quality is kind of confusing since other hardware-manufacturers like Apple or Samsung work with Cirrus for external DACs and this means better and superior audio-quality. I blame this on the playing-safe-mentality of Sony but this is not how you win the smartphone-market.

We don't need those crappy marketing DAC, just need Sony to add their own S-Master HX technology from their walkman in Xperia

It's ironic to see SONY staff doesn't have a knowledge about SONY Product =*=

They all, except Apple maybe, do same mistake. A lots of products most of will never popular. Why not 1-2 smartphones per 1-2 years? It's simple to support etc. I don't know .

As I see ignorance here is at very high levels I'm here to offer you my audio knowledge and explain what is the powerful audio dotation of our Great sounding XZ premium. First of all I normally use a Sony Walkman NW-A45 to listen to music but I could enjoy a lot my XZ Premium with my very big Hi-Res Audio library.

Our XZ premium has a PREMIUM DAC powered by Qualcomm that can match even audiophiles needs thanks also to Qualcomm own Aqstic™ audio engine.

The official specs are these:

Qualcomm Aqstic™ audio code playback:

Dynamic range: 130dB (Excellent. Very)

THD+N: -109dB (Very very good)

Native DSD support (DSD64/DSD128), DoP (DSD over PCM) (Super excellent, avaliable normally only on 500+ euros players)

PCM up to 384kHz/32bit, DXD support (Full Hi-Res experience with 32bit (max possible bit depth) and 384khz resampling.

Dual oscillator support (44.1kHz/48kHz) (Premium feature)

Actually i don't know Samsung's Cirrus logic DAC specs (but I admit I love that brand for DACs, for me, one of the best) but I can assure you it doesn't support NATIVE DSD playback and it doesn't support 32bit (stops at 24 bit for Samsung) and 384khz (stops at 192khz for Samsung).

Despite the relatively low volume (fine for me honestly with my WH-1000XM2 and Fiio F9 Pro) Our DAC and AMP are a premium choice and a very good quality one's offered directly by Qualcomm in our S835.

Applause to sony to make Hi-Res playback working perfectly and the DSEE-HX (if still limited to 24bit 96khz despite Walkman’s one 24bit 192khz) is a super feature to restore compressed or CD music to NEAR Hi-Res quality.

Premium DAC? lol..

http://eng.soomal.com/edoc/10100000150.htm

Sony uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 DAC (WCD9335) on XZP, and it supports up to 24-bit/192kHz

That's a cost reduction. Slightly_frowning_Face Poor sound quality compared to Samsung,Apple,LG,even huawei..

But we have snapdragon 835 on XZ Premium, not the old 820, this means we have WCD9341 DAC.

Have you even read all my previous post??

Did you check the official Qualcomm link?

Did you see the specs?

Then how can you say it's not a premium DAC??

As you can see here

Forget whats on paper or what people are saying here on the comments, mostly people who have not actually tested the audio side by side.

I have the xperia Z3, fantastic audio, didnt like the audio on the xperia X, reason why I sold it, tried the htc 10 from a friend, sure its loud, but I dont need louder than the Z3, but it lacks in quality specially when you enable some audio options on xperia.

I tried today a friends xperia xz premium, I wasnt hoping for much based on comments and reviews, I was blown away, it is really good, not sure which I prefer Z3 or XZ, the XZ has more bass and a fullness to it, which is basically lacking in iphones, samsungs etc, I had an iphone 7 last year and it sounded tiny, detailed sure, but tiny, too digital, same with xperia X, but the sound on xperia Z3 or XZ premium sounds full, like listening to good full size speakers. The difference is, xz has more bass/fullness, the Z3 has better details like drums and so on.

I promise you, if you are coming from Z2 or Z3 you will not be disapointed in audio.

Stop reading specs on a piece of paper, what matters is what they make with it. The model of the DAC doesnt matter because it will saound totally different on a samsung or sony or LG.

PS - I have triple drivers headphones, and all my music in FLAC, unfortunately my friend with XZ had the music in mp3 320kbs but I really could not tell the difference, same songs tested.

Another thing, I never needed more volume on my Z3, and its definitely louder on the XZ, if you  need more volune than the XZ then you have hearing loss and should get your ears tested, because at maximum volume its actually painfull. Sure other phones like HTC 10 are louder, but whats the point if youll never use it at maximum volume anyway.
