Within the first week of purchasing XZ premium some lagging issues such as touch keyboard not responding started.
Now its almost unusable after 3 weeks of use. Regular error is system UI has stopped responding and any type of app can stop responding. The phone regularly locks up now and basically unusable. Battery is drained quickly and often runs hot as a result.
Spoke to online chat support and they email through possible solutions which we have tried most of without result. The next steps will require resets backups etc which I just dont have time for.
If Sony doesnt offer a reasonable solution within next couple of days then its going back for a refund and will buy a Samsung.
We had a older Xperia without any issues.
This XZ is a dud at this stage unfortunately and its fully updated.
Hi !
It must be a hardware error, waranty replacement !!!
If you think that another brand of phone will solve all your problems then go for it. However, you need to be aware that the very same things are complained about on ALL forums. So you could get something even worse!
Before throwing in the towel do a software repair, not a software reset. The repair installs all new software/firmware. Yes it is as painful as a reset but better. You say you don't have time for this, but you will waste way more time changing phones and may still have issues. It is up to you.
We have used various phones over the years and so far xperia xz the worst. When its locking up crashing stalling at this point in mobile evolution its an unpolished product.
Mine works great all the time without any issues. I am a firm believer in restarting ALL cell phones once a day! I believe this solves the vast majority of issues that crop up on phones when they are left running for days, or weeks on end. That being said: obviously you have received either a bad unit, which can, and does, happen on ALL phones, or you just need to do the software repair. You want Sony to "repair" the problems and when we tell how to try it yourself you're not willing and would rather just complain. Well, go ahead and complain until your fingers wear out typing your complaints. It will get you no further along in resolving your issues. This is a community forum, not a Sony Tech support forum. Now, if you're willing to try the software repair and it still doesn't resolve your issues then by all means seek out a warranty replacement/repair, or dump it and move on.
The latest update fixed it for a while and as of yesterday its broken again. UI error and screen lags to the point that its unusuable and reboots itself which can take quite some time because the phone goes dark for a while.
Will try software repair tool today. From reading the forum here, it appears that it will help at first and then the lag will return either within a day or 2.
I made a backup of the phone first through sony software repair and restore. I then repaired the phone. I then restored the phone but half way through there was an error and it couldnt do all the repair. I tried again and get the error - "something went wrong with restore "Getrestoreinfodevicefailed companion BR 4719 1.9.2.0 "
I cant restore with this error.
Well done Sony!!!
I had the same problems initially after the phone arrived (I preordered it so it was on the first software version). After 2 weeks of overheating and lag I did a software repair, which deleted everything and reinstalled my software and it fixed every problem for me. 7 months and still going strong.
I suggest that you do not restore from backup any apps, but only data if absolutely necessary. Do the repair and let it settle for a few hours or a day. Then install your third party apps one at a time with some time between installs. Give the phone time to settle in. Chances are that there is a third party app causing your problems, so if you let them restore from backup you may just be restoring the same problem you are trying to fix.
Yep so no restore from backup. Logged into Google account (as per Sony instructions during the first boot process) and it re installed apps as per before. Now its going through the battery like there is no tomorrow. It will now need to be recharged after minimal use for the day. The apps are no different from the last xperia and that xperia was OK. It often runs hot so assume a processor or processors are running at near 100% for no particular reason.
The phone is going back to where I bought it. It has a major problem (defective in some way and unrealiable) so I will be requesting a refund or a change to another product.
The backup, repair and attempts to restore from the backup and then the reinstall and getting the phone to "settle down" cost me about 3hrs of my time and its still got problems.
