I use smart connect quite frequently on my old Z1 Compact. On my new XZ I also want to use it in the same way.
But although the versions are the same I miss some actions on the XZ.
- I can't set the brightness of the screen when I want to enter nightmode. I don't mean the feature to dim automatic.
- I can't switch 4G-data on/off when I want to entering nightmode. I don't need an update at 3 am.
- I can't set up an wifi hotspot on the phone automatic, when using a NFC-tag (yes, I still use them, they are brilliant).
Any help form you guys.
Alternatively, I rather not want to use an third party app.

Christofer,
Thanks anyway but that's a true shame.
I still wonder why the same version misses some crucial options.
That leaves me no other option then to search for an third-party app that still works instead.
Like Tasker or something.
So progression is not allways a step forward.
hi,
just to be clear you have both the same versions of smart connect installed on Z1 and XZ?
can you upload a screenshot of the both smartconnect specifically in the add start action page..
Hi Nolramlb,
Yes, I am using the same versions of smart connect on both devices. On the right is the XZ.
Next is a picture the possibilities to choose from when I want to make an action in smart connect.
You can see the differences between the two devices.
On the right side (XZ) I cannot control the brightness (= helderheid in Dutch).
I also cannot toggle wifi hotspot and 4g-data (=dataverkeer in Dutch).
Am I missing some other setting which hide these options or, did Sony indeed leave these options out of smart connect?
It is quite nice to save batterypower when I can switch off data and wifi and also not being disturbed by notifications.
The option 'do not disturb' in the settings menu is just half the solution.
Hi @BR_NL, I'm glad to hear that you decided to get the Xperia XZ!
I'll see if I can get some information on why the Smart Connect options differ between the Xperia XZ and Xperia Z1 Compact.
Thanks Cristofer
At least for the effort.
I use smart connect with the Sony NFC-tags almost on a daily basis.
For usefull things of course, why should it tell me the time.
I have requested information about this so I'll let you know as soon as I know more.
I agree that it can be quite useful, especially when combined with NFC tags.
@BR_NL I'm afraid that this is because the Smart Connect app is being phased out. The app will continue working as long as it is available for download from Google Play, but during the phase out some features will no longer work.
I understand how you feel. During the phase out some features will no longer work for devices where the app isn't pre-installed.
Hi everyone,
On the search for a substitute for Smart Connect I found Droid Automation. This does the job very well.
All I need for automating every day stuff on my XZ, is in this app. And even a lot more.
Easier to use than Tasker and Automate, almost the same options, there's a paid version with more options for the real tweaker.
And for free withiout ads:
Brilliant !
Have fun with it and make your life easier.
Last remark: It's because of Android itself that 4G data is not to be controlled.
