OK to use Quick Charger UCH10 when charging XZ1 Compact?

Hi

I already using the Quick charger UCH10 to charge a Z5 Compact.

Should the same charger fit my new XZ1 Compact?

Hi @andtornrosXZ1compact, welcome to our forum!

The UCH10 charger only supports Qualcomm Quick charge 2.0, so you will not be able to take advantage of Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 which the Xperia XZ1 Compact supports. However the device will still charge using Quick Charge 2.0 instead.

Do note that you will need to use the cable that was included with your Xperia XZ1 Compact as your new device does not have a micro USB port.

If you want a charger that supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 I suggest that you take a look at the UCH12 or the UCH12W.

Let me know if that answers your question! Slightly_smiling_Face

Then I have a new problem for you at Sony support.

When charging some minutes and the charger gets a little warm and the XZ1 Compact as well, the charging works fine but there is a big BUT.....

You cant use the Swiftkey at the same time because you will get corrupted text. To swipe is impossible and even when pressing letter after letter  you will have double or tripple letters at the same time.

It seems like the screentouch does not work while using the UCH10. This problem ends directly when you disconnect the USB-C cable.

It works to charge with the charger that was included in the phone delivery and using the Swiftkey.

I have tested this about 10 times now. And it is the same behavior every time.

Is this a known problem?

I´m using the original cable delivered with the XZ1 compact.

Interesting, thanks.
How does one see if Quick Charge is active?
I own a QC3 certified charger, but it doesn't seem to charge any faster than on any USB3 port.

Hi again @andtornrosXZ1compact, I apologize for the late reply.

That sounds very strange, is it the same if you use another keyboard application? There are plenty to choose from in the Google Play store if you search for "keyboard".

You can also test the device while it's rebooted in safe mode so we can make sure that one or more third party applications are not the cause of this behaviour.

Let me know if there has been any change! Slightly_smiling_Face

Hi @Snapples, thank you for your question! Slightly_smiling_Face

There is no indication with like an icon or a text that tells you that the device is using quick charge or not.

May I ask for the name of the charger that you have that is compatible with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0?

If you want to test if the device is quick charging with your charger or not, the best way is to use the device so it has around 5-10% battery left, then connect your normal charger to the device (wall mounted charger that was included with the device) and charge it to like 50-60% and write down how long it took. Then repeat the same process with your Quick charger and see how long it takes for the device to charge to the same % as with the included charger.

Let me know if that helps! Slightly_smiling_Face

That seems like a really convoluted work around to check if quick charge is working or not...I've come to the XZ1C from a Samsung S7E which simply had a little message on the lock screen when quick charging was ongoing.

Clearly firmware differs from manu to manu but not having some sort of QC indication is quite an oversight?

Thanks for the reply!
It's a BW-S5 charger.

It would certainly not hurt to have some kind of indication for Quickcharging.

Hello everyone!

@Xocnai, I totally agree with you and I will make sure to forward your thoughts on this internally as user feedback!

For testing purposes, they might be applications available in the Google Play store that will tell you if the device is being charged using quick charger or not, so I recommend that you have a look in there! Slightly_smiling_Face

@Snapples, thank you for the information.

From what I can see when I did a quick search, it does seem that this charger is a certified charger that supports Qualcomm Quick charge 3.0, however I do not have a list of third party chargers that are compatible with our devices. I would recommend that you either do the test (I understand it's very time consuming) or if you check if there is an application in the Google Play store that can tell you how fast the device is being charged.

I will make sure to forward your feedback as well! Slightly_smiling_Face

Let me know how it works with the charger @Snapples!
