Sony - please confirm when this will be addressed?

Uncontrollable notifications are unacceptable in a smartphone in this price bracket.

As other users have clearly stated - you cannot have a phone wake you up in the middle of the night because of a 30% battery notification - that is absolutely ridiculous. If some users want a feature as bizarre as that, they should have to switch it on. It should be an option, off by default.

You need to address this as it makes the unit unusable for a mission critical phone.

as far as I know no other OEMs offer the option to disable low battery notifcations. that is an essential part of an android device. to let the user know that it will run out of charge. (especially for users who rely on the device for alarms for waking up. since the alarms don't work if the device is 0%)

you could try leaving your device charged at night, recent Xperia devices have battery saving features that will disable power supply once the device reached a certain charge so no damage happens to the device

Actually, all major OEMs e.g. Samsung, LG & Blackberry allow customization of notifications to suit the users needs, INCLUDING battery alerts. I have owned all, so I can actually speak from experience, not opinion.

This is a functionality regression which came about with Nougat and as can be ascertained from user feedback already at this early stage, it is a major drawback for many users who (a) have to keep their phones on and (b) may not sleep next to a wall outlet.

FYI trying to justify poor application design or concept is not a positive trait for Sony. It does not instill confidence in the product.

I don't understand the big deal about the low battery warning. Every phone has it including the iPhone. My iPhone alerts me at 20% and 10% whilst my XZ alerts me at 15% and 5%. I like having the warning and can't think why it would ever be an issue, unless it wakes you up at night but then why wouldn't your phone be charging anyway? I always put my phone into airplane mode at bedtime so for me this is a non-issue.

Gosh. Listen up everyone, it's not a problem for Sunking so we are obviously all mistaken in our application needs. What were we thinking?!

I said that I don't understand the problem, not that you shouldn't necessarily have a problem.

Hi @Roskib, I am sorry to hear that you feel that way. Slightly_frowning_Face

I fully understand that it can be inconvenient for users to get used to changes in their device, but this change in particular regarding the low battery notification is not an error in itself, it works as intended as I wrote a few posts back. I am afraid that I do not know what changes may be done in the future, but please believe me that user feedback is very important for us and I will make sure to forward this internally as user feedback on your behalf.

If you do not wish to be notified about low battery during night time, then I recommend that you try using one of the previously mentioned workarounds. For example, set the device to silent, or set the notification sound to none under Settings > Audio.

Hi Emile,

Thanks for the reply. Once again, just to reiterate:

- Switching to silent defeats the purpose of having the device on. The device is on and must ring and wake the user up. Many people have mission critical jobs and need to be woken (Doctors, pilots, emergency technicians etc). So Silent mode does not solve the issue as the device must be on and must have sound enabled.

- Switching off notifications is, as above, not a solution since with Sony ALL notifications are disabled, again - some notifications like messaging are required, for the same reasons as mentioned above.

The solution is very simple - allow customizable notifications for battery level alerts: Sound/Vibrate/Silent/Off.

This is not difficult programming, I'm sure Sony's developers could manage that.

Best regards.

Ah, @Roskib thank you for being so clear and detailed. I will forward it internally as user feedback on your behalf as promised! Slightly_smiling_Face

Like many others in this wishlist I kindly ask you to repair this annoying feature to a user selected option. It seems a minor update to me and can be done tomorrow if you take your customers serious. They don't spent hundreds of euros to get some unwanted features afterwards.
