Check Xperia XZ premium megapixel count

Hello everyone.

Recently I bought an xperia xz premium from an online store  (I live in brazil and it is hard to find xperia phones in stores). The store seems to be fine at first, but I hearded some problems with them so I decided to run some apps to check if my phone's hardware matched what it was suppose to.

Everything run fine until the test checked the back camera. It showed 8Mpixel instead of 19.

I was a bit concerned, so I downloaded another one, and it showed 19Mp... And a third one showed 22Mp! (I run Antutu, Phone Checker and AIDA64, they had good raitings on google play.)

I have no ideia why these numbers are so different... So, Would someone know why these apps displayed such an array megapixels?
And could someone give me a hand and show me a more reliable way to check if my cell phone came with the 19Mp camera?

Don't know if this is a reasonable problem, but you never know... Its better to ask : )

It's a good quality photo, the noise pattern looks like typical Sony phone, I think you have the real deal, no need to worry.

If you run the same test multiple times, do you get the same results? I have never used  any of those you mentioned, but maybe you could give z device test a try? Its pretty good.

if you’re still concerned i suggest sending your phone back. You may always worry about your phone not being what you paid for.

good luck

Hello Skalonjic, thank you very much for your reply.

I agree with your point of view, but right now I'm trying to avoid send it back, since the whole process to get another one would take easily a moth.

I tried z device test, it shows

Preview size: 1920x1080

Supported preview sizes: 1920x1080

...

picture size: 2023x3792 19,2 MP

Supported picture size: 2023x3792 19,2 MP

...

So it appears to be a 19,2 MP camera, and the preview image is in shrinked to fit in the HD screen. Have no idea where the 22MP or 8.3MP from the othe apps came from...

Could someone try the app to check if gets the same result??? I would be very glad if someone could do this.

First of all, 3rd party apps use Camera2API which is known to work pretty bad on Sony phones (Sony purposely limited camera resolution to 8MP for third party apps...) As far as I know there are some apps that can bypass this limit but I wouldn't be too sure if this really works well.

The only good source for camera pictures is stock camera app from Sony.

Secondly, it would be really easy to increase the resolution of pictures to what you like, it's not really a indicator of quality.

In my opinion the only proper way to check the camera quality is to compare the pictures with others on internet, you can post some here and we could try to judge if they come from original Sony phone.

Hello admad, thanks for your reply,

That seems such a strange limitation, I had no ideia that sony does that.

I tried to upload some pictures here, but the only one I was able to is the one down bellow, the other ones were to big. But I think this one is a good macro picture.

I uploaded another one here
