After updating to 5.1.1 my phone isn't able to send texts anymore, the conversation is still visible but when I try to send a new text a grey notification appears saying "could not send."
The message still persists after I reboot in safe mode.
Are there any fixes for this issue?
I have a Sony Xperia Z3v (verizon version) and I got an update to 5.1 Lolipop two days ago and since then I have not been able to send any text messages. I can recieve them just fine but can not reply or start a new conversation. All conversations that I had previous to the update are still in the conversation list and still all show up correctly. This is the case for the default messaging app that comes with the xperia and the google "Messaging" app and google "Hangouts" and Textra. I have now tried 4 messaging apps and they all have the exact same error. On the default sony Messaging App I do get a toast saying the message could not be sent, on the other apps I do not get that toast but the messages do not show up in the converstation and the other person says they never got them so I am assuming they never got sent.
I manually backed up all my data (music, photos and videos) to my computer (via USB). I did a factory reset on the phone, when the phone reset I chose not to restore anything at all (no backup).
I then tried the default sony messaging app and it worked. I was able to send a text message. I am now going to try installing the Google "Messaging" app because its my perfered messaging App and try again. I hope it works. And then I will just have to download 100+ apps and update the ones already on the phone and then redownload my media from my computer (manual backup) and hope it all works.
This has been very disapointing and at first I thought it was verizon but now I realize the problem was sony.

I'll escalate this and try to find more info on this, if it was a Sony's issue or if was Verizon when they add their bloatware apps and settings.
Could you test different messaging apps such as google messenger
Would it be possible for you to take a log file from the phone after trying to send an SMS and getting this message?
To do this:
Settings > About phone > Build number, tap 7 times on the build number
Go back and select Developer options and turn on "USB debugging"
Restart your phone
Try to send an SMS using the standard app
Settings > Developer options, select "Take bug report". When the report is ready (takes a minute or so) you'll get a notification that you can tap and share to Google Drive. Please send me a link in a private message.
Evidently the "official" Verizon response is to do a factory reset.
Forum members have reported success with that: https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/905003
I find that horribly inconvenient and just kind of crappy overall, but that about sums up my relationship with Verizon and the Z3V so I shouldn't be surprised.
I was very comfortable and happy using default Messaging app on my Xperia Z3v. Following software update on 2/27/16 the Messaging app became nonfunctional,"cannot send text". Verizon support reccomended using their Messaging+ app which is working, but I prefer the other. Is Sony working on this?
