SD card not recognised after updating software

I had a pop up on my phone (Z3) saying there was a new software update. When I clicked on it it advised me that I needed to update the software updater to continue, I did so and it then put through to a screen showing Sony apps that needed to be updated (video, PlayStation video, what's new and one other one that I can't recall at the moment) I updated these and didn't think anything of it... I went to look at Facebook (which I had moved to sd) and it was no longer accessible. I have looked and there has been one system incident at the time that I updated the updater but it won't elaborate on what the incident was... I'm a bit frustrated as if I had known it would have made my sd card crap itself I wouldn't have updated the updater and those apps, or I would have removed the sd card before I began. Is there a way to make the sd card be recognised again by my phone as I have only had it in the phone 2 days and it has all my photos and a heap of app data that I don't want to lose... That and I don't want to have to buy a new sd card seeing as this one is brand new...

@MollyJ

that seems to be a faulty SD card not an update issue, if you move apps to the SD card and you remove the SD card the apps will be corrupted, which means that you will see a blue icon on the app drawer, you will have to reinstall the app > move it to the SD card. This is not a Sony issue, but that's how Android works.

Could you test the SD card with a different phone?

Hi MollyJ,

Welcome to the community,

I suggest removing the SD card and connecting to a PC/Mac with an adapter and see if you can see its content, if you can back it up and format the SD card and see if the handset can see the data card again.

uliwooly, it's a decent quality sd card so shouldn't have been faulty so quick. Looking at prior forum posts there seems to be similar issues when updates have occurred, just not this recent that's why I posted my query. The system incident occurred at the moment the sd card stopped working,which was directly after updating the updater...

thank you for your reply Jake-SonyXperiaSupport I'll have to check see of my spare phone is compatible with a 16gb sd card. Otherwise I'll have to invest in a usb sd card reader as my laptops sd card reader has issues, I'll have to do a data recovery if the sd card has carked it as I do not want to lose my data that is on it. Bit upset though as it was a brand new sd card, and will probably have to reinvest in one. Is there a way to see what caused the system incident?

Hi,

Just to check, did you encrypt the SD card at some point before the update?

If you didn't encrypt the sd card then ignore my post. Otherwise if the SD card is encrypted, that maybe one of the posibility that it won't work after after or somewhat like that.

Ok, update:
so I've popped the sd card into a different phone (cheap LG) and I can see a couple of pictures (about 20 out of the 100-200 that was on it) and a few files. So looks like I'll need to get a usb reader to check it on my laptop... Does anyone know why my phone would have stopped recognising the sd card (I tried with a different one and it recognised that)

HI, this is abit odd. You're right, get a card reader to move those files to  your PC and try to format the card to fat or fat32. once done try to plugin to the phone again to see if it reads again.

If not, try to do a softwre repair or factory data reset.
