Z3 Broken Display but Full Function?

A friend tells me that he use a Z3 with  a small crack in the glass but Touchscreen and all other Functions are ok?

I think if the glass ist damaged the touchscren cant do?

the screen glass is different from the digitizer. so he can still use his phone even with crack as long as the digitizer / lcd isn't damaged.

 however this is not recommended since the crack screen can cause injury, so it is recommended to have the phone serviced a local sony service center

OK I thought there automatically goes to the digitizer broken when the glas is damaged

you could apply a film protector assuming that the digitizer still works, the glass its the digitizer, underneath will be the LCD, if you send it to get repaired they will have to change both LCD and Digitizer as they come glued as a unit. But I agree with @nolramlb it's better to get it repaired to avoid cutting your finger or it will eventually will crack further and it will stop working, also, the phone its no longer waterproof.
