I recently started having issues with my Z3 not charging fully. Most nights I put it on charge and it will get to, anywhere between 70% and 95% and then the battery icon will starting appearing and disappearing as if i'm repeatedly removing/reconnecting the charger. This happens with the usb cable and the magnetic charger. I try to disconnect the charger and then reconnect and it sometimes works fine and sometimes keeps doing it. Very rarely does it actually fully charge to 100%. I've tried different usb cables to see if thats the issue, but it doesnt seem to matter.
Any ideas/help would be most appreciated
Cheers
Hi PhantomCanary,
Welcome to the community,
Although the above answer is likely the correct one, before sending the device away, you could try performing a software repair on the device just in case.
1. Before you start you have to download the PC Companion software from PC Companion
and install it on your PC.
2. Once installed on your PC, double-click the PC Companion icon on your desktop to start the update.
Note! For some models you will be prompted to do a backup prior to the update and then restore.
3. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
4. Phone Software Update.
5. Start.
6. Repair Phone
7. Continue
8. Accept data removal
9. Next
10. Wait for prepare
11. Select Phone
12. Follow the connection steps
Have spoken to support via Live Chat and they also said to perform a software repair on the phone. I tried this, but am still having the issue
Then I would suggest following Phy's suggestion, contact the Support team and ask them how you can get the device checked by a service agent.
I am sorry for this inconvenience.
I'm really tired of this issue and from SONY answers, i'm really surprised how thousands of users are complaining from the same problem and SONY yet didn't release any official solution.
You know that there is a bug in Lollipop, why you just say it out loud instead of giving some not working solutions?? we all already tried to repair, factory reset, ... it's the same problem, THERE IS A BUG IN YOUR LOLLIPOP LAST UPDATE. Now say it to your users who choosed that phone because of it's "long life battery" and try to realese a fast update to solve this issue.
I'm really disappointed
Absolutely spot on, rami_leb!
I've had my Z3 for less than 2 months, and last week it turned itself off.
After attempting all manner of things (key combos and charging for hours), it finally turned back on.
Then on Tuesday (26th May) I went on holiday, turned my phone off before the flight.
When I arrived at my destination, I tried to turn it back on.
Since Tuesday until today (Sunday 30th), I have spent hours of my holiday time attempting to turn on.
When I finally did get it back on (probably a fluke), the battery indicated 100%.
Then when I checked it again quite litrally a few minutes later, it showed 56%!
So I plugged in the Sony charger and cable at it appeared to start charging and after a short period of time, the charge showed 85%, and when I check it once more after 2 minutes, it showed 100%!
I then used it for the next 24 hours without issue, filming 2 4k videos of about 3 minutes each and taking a few pictures, and the battery indicator read 95%, which struck me as not being correct, but then it powered off by itself.
I then powered it back on as normal, and the battery indicator still read 95%, but then after about half an hour, it turned itself off and I was unable to get it to turn back on.
I had it on charge all of last night, and still nothing this morning.
The only thing I managed to get it to do was show the animated battery indicator that appears when it's turned off, and it showed it was in the red.
It appears that there is a bug as mentioned to do with the charging.
And this **bleep** bug thinks not only is the phone charged when it clearly isn't, but it also stops your mobile from charging correctly even when it's turned off.
And yes, I've attempted PC Companion, to no avail, because the phone battery is actually flat, it's unable to connect because all it then wants to do (most of the time) is go into a bootup loop, so it connects, then disconnects, etc. because there's obviously no charge whatsoever.
It's disgraceful this is complete rubbish was not only released from two big giants such as Google and Sony, but also that they've failed to sort it out quickly.
A quick search on the internet shows just how many people are having this problem, and that's with Z3's alone.
You've both let your customers down
To be honest, I'd settle for reverting back to the original Kit-Kat 4.4.4, but there seems to be nothing to advise me on how! And no doubt, I can't.
I'm still abroad until the 09th June, with a mobile that's effectively bricked.
If someone, or by some miracle, Sony can offer online assistance, it would be greatly appreciated.
