Xperia Z3 Screen Concern

HI Community.

I have been considering getting the Xperia Z3 recently, however I am concerned regarding an issue that I have heard whispers of. According to what I have read there have been reports of users claiming that the screen is fragile, cracking when no excessive force or impact has been applied to the device. I would like to ask the users of this device if you have experienced this issue yourselves and whether it is a common problem.

The model of the Z3 I have been thinking of purchasing is the flagship model and not the compact.

Any feedback will be appreciated.

just because someone claims there screen broke by itsself. It doesn't mean it did. Just saying. And remember this forum isn't filled with users that have no problems. 99% of users only turn up here when the problems start so think if it was an issue it's not a big one. My z3 has been flawless. Even after being dropped. Although I use a leather flip case.

I agree with @mr_xzibit

Just think about it, if you hit or put pressure/stress on glass it will develop micro cracks which eventually will grow and that's when some users think that their screen crack on their own, when they needed one last bump, hit, etc.

I understand where you're coming from. I got this information from reviews, some people were saying this was halide ing after three days and sometimes in a matter of one day. In most cases users users are reporting a hairline crack and the device has not been dropped, I was reading a similar case on these forums moments ago and the user had a terrible time with Sony over the warrentt and was adament that she had caused no damage. I've supported Sony for years and own several of their products, I know that their products are normally high quality which is why I was surprised to hear these reports.

I have multiple Xperias X10, Xperia Play, Arc, X8, S, T, Z, Z1, Z3 tablet, and the only Xperia screen I've cracked was the Xperia X10, and that was my faulty because I have keys and the phone in the same pocket and I put pressure on them.

Maybe you could give go to a store and try one out and see how it feels? Mine cracked after 3 days but I am sure the moderators on here will presume I did something terrible to it.( I genuinely didn't) The bottom two thirds of my touchscreen is still working but a new phone is getting delivered by my network provider tomorrow. Not a Sony Xperia z3 though. It just seems to delicate. My z was great but I don't like this one. Apart from the fragile screen it's quite glitchy. Maybe I Just didn't have enough time to figure it out.
I've never cracked any phone screen before this one either.

Firstly, thank you for the continued feedback from the community. anj71, your comment has in fact confirmed my fear, while I do understand and appreciate where the other members are coming from you have confirmed that there is indeed a chance of this problem occurring. If I did get the Xperia I would of course buy a case for it, the one in particular I have my eye on is the Case-Mate Tough, it looks sturdy and protective. It is unusual for Sony to manufacture a product to poor standard so I assume this issue however rare it must be to be a manufacturing accident. In the days before smart phones I either always had Sony Ericsson or Nokia, for the past five years I have had an iPhone 4 and feel it is time for a change. I look after my stuff and my iPhone is still in amazing condition but I feel like giving android a go at this point. I had my heart set on the Xperia but hearing this makes me worry, I would probably buy some after care for it but I will be buying the unit from Amazon if I still go for it. I have heard of some users having a nightmare with Sony over the warranty due to disbelief that the phone has a manufacturing defect as would seem to be the case.

If I don't go for the Xperia I would probably get a Nexus however after having a look at it online I feel that the Nexus 6 is too big for me. I would probably look at the Nexus 5 if I go down that road but getting one is a problem because they have ceased production of that model. The only ones I can find are the European imports on eBay (I live in the UK). While I am confident it will work here I will not have any warranty due to the device originating from overseas. I'll continue to have a think about the Xperia because that's the one I really did want.

Again, thanks to all for the continued feedback. If anybody has any other information to share that would also be appreciated.

Xperia z models are very well reported online as having problem with cracking screens. Mine cracked from taking off charge. Put in pocket with nothing else in it, for about a minute while going out to car. Took it out to make a call and was cracked. Making phone unusable. The phone had screen protector, silicone case and looked after like my baby. There were no knocks, drops or impacts. Its only after its happened to you that you start looking it up online. There are so many complaints, I find it hard to understand why Sony have not owned up to the problem. For those of you that don't believe it can happen, you are the lucky ones, but trust me the phone is certainly not durable and likely to crack just looking at it.

By the way I owned an iPhone 4s for over 2 years still looks like new only ever had screen protector on that.

@giffgaff iPhone 4s is a small phone compared to Z3.Know if you had an iPhone 6 plus and put it in your pocket it would bend.Sounds to me like you had phone in pocket and sat in car. That's where the pressure was applied. I used the 6plus as an iPhone example as it's screen size is closer to Z3 than the 6
