Xperia Z3 Screen Concern

HI Community.

I have been considering getting the Xperia Z3 recently, however I am concerned regarding an issue that I have heard whispers of. According to what I have read there have been reports of users claiming that the screen is fragile, cracking when no excessive force or impact has been applied to the device. I would like to ask the users of this device if you have experienced this issue yourselves and whether it is a common problem.

The model of the Z3 I have been thinking of purchasing is the flagship model and not the compact.

Any feedback will be appreciated.

I had not sat in car before taking it out. And was in jacket pocket not trouser pocket. The z3 I had was the compact so not that different in size. So no this was not a user at fault issue in the slightest. If someone had said the screen would crack on own before it happened, I too would've been sceptical. The amount of people complaining about this issue would suggest a flaw in the product.

Well it was like my friend with a iPhone 6 only had it a few hours and he was sitting on a chair only dropped 20cm and screen shattered.Sound familiar. Truth was he dropped it off his knee and screen shattered. Good job he knew a man who could fix it

Stockyvillage, how would that be familiar? Its nothing like what happened to me. My phone was not dropped, put under pressure or impacted in any way. Are you on commission to sell these phones or something? You seem to be defending a product that has extensive negative reviews on the quality of the screen. An issue that was raised on BBC watchdog a few years back on the z and z1 models too. I have given this person a view from personal experience and that of many people reporting issues all over the internet. Just because it hasn't happened to you, does not make everyone it has happened to a liar. If I'd been warned prior to getting the z3 compact I wouldn't have chosen the phone

Im not sure dude. Just.. The stronger drop the more tougher it gets. Ex. It the z3 was on the table whem i was using it,  just touching the screen and i heard click So i think,  ah some dust or sand.  I take it up and see a crack a tiny 1 but its there 😕 tho ive dropped the device from stairs and... Nothing It was flying on the stairs. About 7 steps and it fling on ita back,  front and ccorners tho no new cracks. Only scratches and scuffs on corners also the frame,  some of the metal dented 😕

@giffgaff yes that's what people post on here fell off a coffee table only fell 20 cm.Must be small to have a table like that.I have had my Z3 for 6 months now.It is always in my pocket, shorts ,trousers, jackets and coat. But never when I sit down
.My phone is in perfect condition.I have seen plenty of photographs were the screen supposedly cracked on its own and I can always see point of impact, bar from a couple of early models were back glass cracked whilst shooting 4k and heat sensor was faulty.BTW I was the man he knew

After reading through some more of the comments it would seem that this problem is hit or miss. Some people say it has happened to them others say it hasn't. I am still in two minds about getting one because it is clear this problem exists and I will probably end up as one of the unlucky ones. I've been looking at the H9 tempered screen protectors and the Encase Armourdillo protective cover, with these two combined do you think it would be worth taking the chance with the device? does anyone here have experience using this case and screen protective I have mentioned?

If the people here still think that there will still be a chance of the device breaking on me then I will probably just wait until the Xperia Z4 arrives and hope that they rectify this issue and reinforce the device with better glass.

I was looking into the issue further this morning and discovered that most people claim that it is heat causing the screen to crack, it seems to have mostly happened when the device has been left on charge or when playing intensive games. Most users report the crack to appear in the same place, a horizontal line across the back of the device which in turn causes the front screen to become unresponsive.

The comments here have given me much insight from the users, I am grateful for the continued feedback.

Quite impossible and never seen a report claiming that.
Only a cracking on the front glass panel would cause a lack of touch response.

@viridis I would have thought so too, I'm simply repeating what I've read from other users. It seems unusual and unlikely but possible if the digitizer had been damaged somehow.
