Xperia Z3 Compact microphone doesn't work after 23.1.A.1.28 patch Android 5.0.2

Hi everybody,

A couple of days ago I received an OTA update notification for my Xperia Z3 Compact with release number 23.1.A.1.28 (Android 5.0.2) . It added a few nice improvements to my lollipop device but suddenly the microphone stopped working. I tried to turn off the phone completely and start it again several times but it doesn't work. Is there anything I could try to make the mic work before trying a factory reset? I have a lot of things and reinstalling evertything is annoying. Maybe there's another patch? Any help will be appreciated.

Edit: I received a phone call and I talked perfectly without any problem. When the call finished, the problem returned. So, I can tell that is not a hardware problem. The mic is only working with the phone app, any other app I've tested (Facebook messenger, Whatsapp, Camera, Sony Diagnostic tool, voice recorder, Google Now, etc) doesn't record anything and no error is displayed.

I can assume that maybe a service/app is blocking the mic but how to tell which one? Is strange due to the fact that in older android versions if an app tried to use the mic while being used by another one, an error was shown, but in this case the apps work normally but no audio is recorded. I hope someone can help me.

Hi, Precisely I wanted any help with this problem without having to reinstall Android. After several hours of testing, I found that for some reason, the bluetooth service kept blocked my mic despite the fact it was turned off. I have bluetooth paired with my car (Ford Sync) for handsfree calling, and at some point, when I left my car and turned off BT, it kept the mic blocked so the apps didn't have access to it, only the phone app (I suppose it has some sort of high priority). When I paired again with the car and disconnected it, it worked again. It is only happening with the last patch because when I installed the first version of 5.0.2 it worked without any problem.

Try the following:

- Go to Settings -> Apps -> Smart Connect -> Force stop, Clear data.

- Go to Settings -> Apps -> All -> Bluetooth Share -> Force stop, Clear data.
- Go to Settings -> Apps -> All -> Audio settings -> Clear data and restart your phone.

- Unpair your car (remove it from bluetooth paired devices), restart phone and pair it again.

Just tagging onto this thread, as I installed this very same patch OTA the other day, my phone seems the same, does anyone know or has worked out what is different after this update ?

I do understand that it could be something not physically noticeable and could be something working in the background !!! (ie, better battery life etc etc).

Thanks

Bobby

Hi there.

I have this exact same problem. The phone worked just fine before the latest Lollipop update, and the problems started for me when it updated to 5.1.1, build number 23.4.a.0.546.

It definitely is a software problem, as calls work just fine when I use WhatsApp or Skype. It's just randomly the phone dialer that doesn't work.

I tried all the suggestions in this thread. No luck so far. I'm holding off to do a complete factory reset, as someone here already pointed out it doesn't work, and I don't feel like re-installing all my apps (two-factor authentification is a big pain in the **bleep** when having to re-login to everything).

This is really super annoying. I've gotten close to the point of just throwing the **bleep** thing into a wall when the person on the other end can't hear me for the tenth time. This is a phone, it's primary design is to make calls.

Sony, please get back to us with a solution.

Oh, and signal is fine, I disabled all the audio improvement trickery, and I tried rebooting it a hundred times... nothing.
