Xperia z3 compact Losing mobile data connection

Hi,

I recently received my sony xperia z3 compact and have noticed that after it has been connected to wifi for a long time and then goes out of wifi range it doesnt seem to automatically revert to mobile data and the only wat to get it back seem to be to restart my phone? Im on the 3 network, does anyone else have this issue or know if its related to phone or network or have a fix?

thanks

I have the same problem on 23.4.A.0.546. When should I expect next software update? This is very annoying...

I can confirm that since the  23.4.A.0.546 update the device is randomly ignoring the general mobile data setting.

That means that it refuses to setup a data connection or is dropping the connection while browsing as many members here noticed.

My experience is also that when i don't want a 3G/4G data connection by toggling the mobile data off (because i am out of megabytes)  sometimes the phone still opens a data connection and consuming my valuable megabytes.

This means that probably also data will be used in background, altough i declined this.

I tried to solve this by changing the appropiate settings and at the end a total factory reset.  No result.

Neither there is a clear pattern or consistant behavior.

I hope this will be solved soon because an unreliable data connection is unworkable.

I am also having a weird issue that neither myself or Three support have been able to resolve.

When I am in a 4G area, my mobile data connection works.

When I am in a non-4G area (e.g. 3G), I get signal bars (3 or 4 bars of signal, calls + texts work) but no mobile data connection. It just shows the signal bars and does not show H/H+ etc. icon (but it does when I'm on LTE).

Things I have tried:

- Turning phone off/on

- Turning airplane mode off/on

- Going to the service menu and checking it's on LTE (preferred)/WCDMA/GSM

- Set phone to WCDMA/GSM to turn off trying to connect to 4G

- Downloading and checking APN settings, recreated APN

- Tried my sim card in another phone - data connection works

- Tried in different geographical locations (to rule out signal/mast issues)

- Contacted Three support to troubleshoot the issue, they think it's a problem with the phone. I tried my sim in another Z3 compact and the internet didn't work on that either.

I don't know if it's the same as others are experiencing because my phone does work when I have LTE signal.

1. Do you still see the icon for mobile data (H, H+, LTE)? If so, which one? It shows LTE when I am in an LTE area, nothing otherwise.

2. Does the phone still show that it has network reception (do you see reception bars or a red cross next to the battery icon)? Yes

3. If you go to Settings -> More -> Mobile networks -> Access Point Names, do you still see your APN there? Yes

4. Which operator are you using? Three

5. Does your SIM/subscription support LTE? Yes
6. Which preferred network mode have you set (Settings -> More -> Mobile networks -> Network mode)? LTE (preferred), WCDMA/GSM
7. If you tap your APN under Settings -> More -> Mobile networks -> Access Point Names, what's the APN, APN-type (e.g. default,supl,a-gps) and APN protocol (e.g.IPv4/IPv6) set to? "default, supl, mms, a-gps" & IPv4

8. Would you usually be connected to LTE in the area where the issue happens, or WCDMA/HSDPA(shown as H in UI)? It only happens when I'm in a non-LTE area or if I turn off LTE on the device settings (set to WCDMA/GSM).

This has become an incredibly frustrating issue on an otherwise excellent phone. I get unlimited data on Three but I am rarely able to use it and it's very annoying as I can hardly ever stream music in the car any more.

I would really like my issue to be acknowledged and an ETA of when I can expect a fix.

Yeah it's the same issue (I'm also on Three) but it seems to be affecting more people since the Lollipop 5.1 update.

The best work-around I've found is from the phone menu dial *#*#737843#*#* to bring up the Service Menu.

From there click Service Settings, Network Mode and select LTE_WCDMA.

I am having the same issue with my phone in the US on T-Mobile. I have to enable/disable airplane mode literally 20+ times a day to restore the data connection

Hi,

when would be released an update that fixes this issue? Since yestesterday I'm completely unable to use my data connection (Turning airplane mode on and off a hundred times doesn't work anymore). Please, fix this NOW. I was using the data connection to connect through a VPN to my workplace, and I need this functionality.

My carrier is Simyo Spain, and my build number is 23.4.A.0.580

Thank you

I tried getting in touch with my local Sony support and they claimed that no-one had reported the issue, denied all knowledge of the existence of these forums (and the response from an official support member) when I pointed it out to them, that there was an issue with the firmware for the device and said that I had to either send the phone in for repair (even though it was the same on a separate Z3 firmware and after I did a 'repair' on my phone) or that it was a network provider issue (I spoke to them first and they said it was a Z3 firmware issue).

Very frustrated - I followed their instructions and did the 'repair' process on my phone to reinstall the firmware which despite backing up beforehand didn't restore correctly so I lost conversation histories and had to manually reinstall my Apps.

I am completely baffled as to why they had no knowledge of the issue - all they needed to do was say "This is a known issue which will be resolved in the next software update." which would have saved me hours of time following their instructions and two factory resets.

I hate it when legal/corporate **** gets in the way of providing decent customer support.

Ok, so I have an update on this - I was able to get my phone working again. So I bought the phone from an Amazon Marketplace seller and it came in a sealed box but when I turned it on I found that it had O2 Apps installed on it and also had German as the default language.

I found out that there are different customisations of the firmware and that I had the German O2 customisation installed. Apparently different firmwares support different network bands. Over on the XDA forums I found a guide on how to change the firmware and installed the latest Three UK firmware (requires a factory reset) and now my 3G data connection is back!

This is the link to the forum post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/list-stock-firmwares-d5803-d5833-t2906706

Even if you don't flash your device (read the disclaimers/warnings!), you can very easily check from the phone settings which customisation you have installed and maybe another one might work better for you. It's still an official Sony firmware...so you'll still get OTA updates and won't void your warranty.

As an added bonus for me - it means I don't have the O2 Apps installed any more!

I spoke with T-Mobile about data connection interruptions. Under Settings --> More --> Mobile Networks --->Access Point Names --> T-Mobile Data (it should be fast.t-mobile.com) --> APN Protocol it was suggested to select IPv4/IPv6.

I have been on and off my mobile data all day today and except in a horrible signal area, no disconnects.

I have been having issues with T-Mobile signals with the Z3C, but that may turn out to be a hardware problem. I am giving it another week before the dreaded call to SONY Support.

[Note: Successive Support persons have instructed me to perform a rebuild via SONY PC Companion. This is the default response to everything but a cracked screen. Is it a good idea? Sure, but it's not been the solution to anything iso far for me.]
