Xperia Z wierd shut down problem~

I got a serious wired problem with my xperia z.

It started last week, with the simcard disconnect and I have to reconnected a couple times.

Then, today it just just down without any apparent reasons. When it's off i try to turn it on again, and it come to the sony logo a couple sec later it shut down. Sometimes it does make it on to the homescreen and shuts down after like 5-10 sconds.. Some times it doesn't make it to the homescreen and just shuts down.

Also, I notice the back is very hot. Is it a battery problem?

Any solutions? I have been using this phone fine for like since I bought it and these things just happen suddenly..

Please help.

This phone is using everything stock.

Android~ 4.3 (as the update hasn't been release in my country yet)
Buil number 10.4.1.B.101

Mine has done this yesterday, about 2 weeks after the 5.2 update, I'm also pretty certain there is a link to the fault, it's only possible to boot my Z1 when attached to a wall charger,

I'm suspecting the battery level monitor myself, even though the level may say 90% or similar the actual level is being read as nearly empty hence the shutdowns,

So here's a list for the support gurus to ponder,

PCC Repair - Done

Hard Reset  - Done

Connected to wall - Boots and stays live

Connected to PC - Switches off after one or two ops

Charged at the wall overnight in off state, charge button illuminated

Charge lamp is red upon insertion then orange and finally green

Current state

When booting and actually on it's incredibly warm for an idle device

Current trials,

In apps force stop stamina and also have it turned off as well, still waiting for results (failed since)

Swapped charge lead and usb plug for Asus ones suppled with my Nexus 7, again awaiting result (no difference)

Soon to repair again on known clean HDD in case a virus has got in through media transfers, i.e poisoned Facebook links that every ones friends love to post so they can earn $365 a day from home, tip for you all, don't click like, all these postings by friends, they are poisoned, half the stories are fake to provoke an emotion from you all the while the hidden link just sent your phone number to a PPi company etc or worse a premium download content site, if you get an e.mail saying thx for your order do not open it and simply delete it, when you open it that is when you get charged, hth,

This needs an urgent fix hence the detailed info, if not I'm looking at as new phone and it won't be another Sony one, as a 5 in a row Sony customer this is the first one to fail, please investigate

Yep as suspected,

I've just tried to get it from the wall to the PC and did so after 30 minutes charging, for a while it stayed alive showing 97% charge, I wanted to remove the SD card and as I did in the storage options it died on me,

Plugged back into the wall, booted up and the monitor says 57% charge right now, now 60% in the time it's taken to write this,

This has to be linked to the update, I simply cannot have lost 40% charge in 5 seconds, combine this with the heat and it says something is burning the battery rapidly, and also the battery isn't getting the charge the sw believes it is,

Near field icon is also selected automatically after a repair.

Okie Yokie I'm at the crossroads,

I can confirm it is a battery issue but whether it's a dying battery or the 5.2 update I just don't know,

Status in the phone is the battery will charge to 100% and according to all tests a healthy battery,

In the wall it works 100%, hooked to a power bank it's 100%, going solo and it's shutdown within 30 seconds of doing anything and also the phone gets hot,

I think I'm going to try a roll back to 4.4 and if that sorts it then it's the Lollypop doing it, if not it's plectrum out time and get the battery out and a new one in, there are Youtubes to show you how to do this, you'll need a battery, £5 ish on eBay UK and a new back £3 ish on eBay UK, for £8 I'm not binning this until now excellent phone, it's my personal swiss army knife so to speak and I was/am hoping to get another 2 years cycle out of it before I go for a new unit,

However I have read another thread where the user has replaced the battery and is in the same position as us where it won't boot up which again suggests the real problem is Lollypop.

Ok,

Battery Doctor app states my battery health is good,

The inability to boot suggests the battery is being read by the OS as drained even though the meter is showing 100%, I base this on the jumping around of the % figures I'm seeing where they can go from 100% to 56% in seconds and then back to 100% once plugged into a charger,

I've prepped for a 4.4 flashback but I'm too nervious to do it right now incase it shuts down and bricks itself, sadly I can't flash it with both a power supply and the data stream because of only one usb port and PC usb ports have the supply guts of a poorly made cheap battery you find in a $1 torch, more studying is required,

I'm pretty certain this is the OS reading the battery status wrongly and not in a stable fashion either hence the jumping around of the juice level, when you add a power source it then effectively makes the OS think the phone has enough battery but currently a full battery is being read as 2% in reality hence the shutdown,

At the very least Sony should issue an idiot proof  tool to rollback with, at least that should sort out hw vs sw conflicts instead of myself having to spend two day in front of a PC going over and over all the little fail tricks to try and resolve this,

I'm currently trying to repair but without any sim or sd cards fitted, I have the max stamina modes engaged but even then after disconnecting from a source the phone shuts down,

Not a happy bunny and looking at how no staff response has been entered since I posted yesterday I guess no one really gives two figs.

Ok final one from me, rolled back to 4.4.4 Kitkat and the results are the same, won't boot unless on a charger etc

I have to conclude now that this is a dying battery causing this,

Options,

Get a new battery and rear glass

Get a power bank and drag a usb cord around all day

Get a case power bank and bulk it out a bit, add weight, check the one you buy is the correct one as the charging is done through the two gold pins not the usb and also that it can supply constantly,

Better than the bin eh.

Well now after two days fiddling with it and just about running every diagnostic etc I'm 99% certain Lollypop is flawed or it's effect on the phone has broken it due to overheating,

I've done the *#*# thing and checked the battery condition and mine states it's good,

My phone broke down during a Candy Crush session and it was also hot and the weather was also around 22 degrees inside my car,

Now I'm hoping there will be a magic download to sort this but I don't imagine there will be any time soon as this fault has been happening to people for the past few months without any resolution or admission of liability,

Right now Sony you just lost a loyal customer, this was my 5th Sony or Sony E phone I've owned and now I'm reduced to seeing out 9 mths of a new contract using the K800i, thanks ever so much, your forum responses are fantastic also, like a Klingon cloaking device i.e never seen!

Here's some more methods I've used and failed with

Roll back to 4.4.4, no joy

Reset customisation, No joy

Removed sim and sd cards and hard reset,PCC repair, No joy

Reinstalled 5.2 HK version No joy

On and Vol+ No joy

Mine charges to 100%, won't allow bootlocker unlock, works perfect as long as there is an external power source feeding the already charged up battery,

Get your engineers and Android to investigate the possibility that the phone once live or being booted without a power boost is being fooled into thinking the battery is exhausted, that is the best start point I can think of because it all looks like a dead battery but the fact others have replaced the battery to no joy says it's either the 5.2 or the hw has been damaged by heat made by the 5.2 update.

Today I opened her up, the back got broke the other week anyway so my nosey nature had to check to see if there was any issue there,

I've ordered a new "used" battery from eBay, it's worth a few quid to check if this is the issue but even then it might not reveal anything as I don't seem to be able to find a new "new" battery and I'm not shedding £25 on one that will probably be the same as the £2 one I've bought,

If this works for me I'll update,

There are youtube vids to show how to open it up and it was easier than I thought,

I used a hairdryer on full heat and went round the edges, next I used a scalple to break the bonding and once I'd got the first corner up the rest was easy,

For the battery you need to lift the yellow taped down black tag and pop the connector off, be gentle and use a plastic tool to do so, next you have to break the glue, working from the bottom edge corner with an old credit card style card I worked it using the push method until I could lift the battery and finally separate the last edge, last up if your back is broken is to remove the NFC chip from it as new ones don't come with one, again I carefully used the scalple to get it off,

Fingers crossed as I really don't want to ditch this phone, it cost me an arm and a leg on 2 yr contract and I'm hoping to get another 2 yrs out of it,

I've put it back together and it still works as it did so maybe I'll still go the power bank case route if the new battery also fails to boot it fully,

The worrying thing is I've seen a lot of Nexus 7 users say their tabs went into this same state after the 5.0.2 release so maybe it is damaged in the boot folder and if it is Sony should release a way to re-write that partition as I don't believe it ever gets touched when flashing updates.

Firther update,

If I load the phone with working apps it will crash back to the Sony screen and not re-boot,

Scenario is

Stamina - Disabled

Flashlight - On

Candy Crush - Loading

NFC - On

BT - On

WiFi - On

Got about 30 seconds use before it crashed, purpose was to try and drain the battery back down to 0% which I'm unable to do as it needs the charger connected to be live,

The more I look at this the more I see the screen saying 100% battery but the Android actually making the phone think it has 3% in it in reality.

Looks like we have a winner

So there you have it, he's done all I've tried and was about to try but the reality is it's a dead unit that needs new components.
