Xperia Z not connecting to PC (Needs driver)

Is there anywhere I can download the c6603 driver online? PC companion seems to have trouble finding and installing the driver and my PC continuously suggests to ask the manufacturor for driver download.

Hi fairul and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

It is very odd that the above is not working for you. Have you tried another USB port and confirmed you are logged in as the administrator on the PC? If at all possible I would also advise trying to connect to another PC to narrow down the cause of the problem.

How do I install the drivers?  If I go to device manager and uninstall the not working C6603 drives, then point to the unzipped downloaded driver directory, windows 7 does not recognize them?

I have tried in all USB ports on ASUS N73S laptop running windows 7 to no avail.  Works ok on XP and windows 8, so some issue with win 7 drivers.

Have you checked the steps above and are you able to confirm if the phone or even an "unknown device" shows up in Device Manager on your PC?

Switching from USB 3.0 to 2.0 worked for me too. But before that, you have to uninstall the "unknown device" from Device Manager.

I have the same (USB connection problem) with my Xperia Z using Windows 10. The phone can be detected when in MSC Mode but not in MTP Mode. I have tried the following methods so far..

  • "First make sure that your phone is turned off and that you press and hold the specified key for your phone model while connecting the USB cable (usually volume down). The notification LED should turn and stay green." This isnot working.
  • I have tried to update the C6616 driver automatically (online) but it gives the following error while attempting to install it "A service installation section in this INF is invalid"
  • I have downloaded the Xperia Z driver to install them manually but when point the search to the downloaded file windows gives error "Windows could not find driver software for your device"
