I got my new Xperia Z and it takes ages to charge and i also noticed when I'm using the device plugged it, it still discharges though it shows charging and its very slow in charging compared to Xperia P. What is the problem? I'm using the original charger with 5v 1.5A output.##
How can i overcome this issue??
Hello, I investigated it.
My Xperia Z had about 10% of a battery when I plugget it in for charging.
I am using always only original charger (1500mA).
Well, it took about 2 hours and 10 minutes to be 100% charged.
Please note that I was not doing anything on my phone during this time and Stamina mode was ON.
I think that it may take about 2h 30min to charge from 0% to 100%.
Why it took about 3 hours for you to charge?:
In my opinion because you were playing with your phone a bit during charging and it was consuming power (screen, processor).
Overall, it is normal for this phone to charge so long.
Thank you.

I have the same kind of problem.
My main issue is that, when using the phone in car with GPS application (Waze) the battery slowly *discharges* although using a car charger capable of delivering 2000mA (Anker 18W / 2.4A + 2.0A (3.6A max) Dual Port USB Car Charge)
I've also tested different cables and car charger combinations without getting better results.
Note that I'm pretty sure that one month ago I did'nt have that issue.
Also, I've recently made a full factory reset of the phone.
I've found an application (Android Tuner Free) which is able to display charging rate in mA.
When using official Sony wall charger, it don't seem to get over 600mA even if the charger is supposed to give 1500mA
i have the same problem. i use my phone while driving (i drive alot) i run my sat nav along with 3g streaming while its on charge yet it doesnt charge nevermind hold a charge and it gets very hot on the back. i have used many different chargers sony's and other makes and it makes no difference. i find this very disappointing from such a 'high' spec phone. i see members are blaming the screen but i never had these kind of problems with other smart phones while im driving. is there an underlaying problem? or do sony expect you to do without using the phone while its on charge? again, none of my other phones had this problem. knew i should of got the lumia!
and i will also add, while on charge and im using the walkman feature, i have the screen off and it very slowly charges and i get terrible interferance on the AUX output
I have the same problem ..
be sure to use the original cable. Xperia series is very sensitive to cable quality.
Very strange this cable issue.
Could please give any information on how and where to buy this "original cable"
Since I had the same charging problem, I let my phone with the charger and it's cable to be repaired under warranty at a sony certified repair center.
3 weeks later I have got my phone back unrepaired (still slow charging) and they have lost the charger and the cable!
Just bought a Sony car charger (ref: AN401)
The box contains an original Sony cable.
Using this combo, nothing changed: still experimenting slow charging
10€ wasted following the advice to use an "official" cable

,thats why it charging slowly,
I would be able to accept the issue if was only about charging *slowly*
The problem is, when used in car with screen on and GPS application running, it is in fact *discharging*, although charger is plugged.
phone will melt
sorry but the truth is that xperia z is full of engineering issues and updates cant do more about this becouse the phone hardware cant do better with termal problems.
