Xperia X8 with Android 2.2 and above?

Hi,

I own the amazing K750i, still in love with the phone but planning to upgrade to a many-in-one device.

I don't want to carry a music player, GPS, camera, FM radio and phone as separate devices and I found X8 as one of the few phones which looks good as well as have all the mentioned functions available for a reasonable rate. (I read others are kind of hyped, tying to keep up with the selling price of iPhone).

K750i was good because I could customize it a lot.

But Alas!! Android 1.6 for Xperia X8?

Questions:

1. Is upgrade possible to Android 2.2 (Froyo) or above? (2.1 is still not good as I cannot move apps to SD card)

    (For K750i I got 2 firmware updates at least!!)

2. Can multiple playlists be created for the music you have on the phone? (I hear music from around 6 different languages)

3. Is there a limit on the number of applications that can be installed? (Other that internal memory (128MB) which 2.2 or above can solve)

4. Will there be a X8 Pro or something of that sort soon for a slightly higher price tag? (Possibly a black model with 2.2 and a camera flash +)

    (I know this cannot be answered now, but out of curiosity...)

5. With there be more talk time and standby time with Android 2.1 and above?

Nahh... X8 is a low end phone. which cannot be upgraded with x10 mini and the mini pro. Either you make a custom ROM or continue to use a rotten eclair.

Hi,

I doubt if that will have any effect (read release new android version), but we might put all our negative experiences on blogs, facebook, websites, ... At least people deserve to know what SE thinks about android phones and how they mislead customers that are buying one.

Is there anything for me to say after reading all the replies above :smileyplain:. I was scolded by my wife for not collecting necessary info and reading enough in forums before making a decision to buy a phone.

Last week i made a instinctive decision at a showroom, which is why i am in here joining the cribbing club now 😞

I sorely miss the Apps2sd. I believed in SE ( after using w550i and w580i) that they will offer all the basic necessary things at a touch, but am feeling being cheated for the money i paid for this. ( i could have gone for a less costing phone of Samsung or Nokia).

Basic things like the camera ( which was great in w550 and w580), phone volume are pathetic and looks 3rd rated, even the new phone companies offer better features.

What the heck SE thinks of providing 200MB memory when there are lacs of useful apps in the market, they should have atleast provided 1GB or RAM if they were not going to have the feature of Apps2SD.

As everyone here, i am waiting for better upgrade. Have been a loyal customer of SE till now, but after buying this one, have changed my opinion and i will suggest my friends and known people not to go for sony phones and will advise them to look for other better alternatives.

i got stuck during the process of preparing the phone (Xperia x8) to update from 2.1.1.A.0.47 to 2.1.A.0.6 ...anyone can help me?

I know how you feel. The first 3 months were frustrating and I was ready to sell at 1/10th the price until xdadevelopers ...

Forget the warranty. RUN AT YOUR OWN RISK No warranty implied since I rooted my phone and frankly I dont want SE support any longer. FM radio and GPS not working but otherwise much better then Eclair and Donut

Dont expect any support from SE. Just root it yoda.

X8 runs great with Gengerbread 2.3.3

Remember this is not the official Cyanogenmod version. Gabeyong and his freinds tweaked it for our X8.

I wont ever buy a SE phone again but I wont ever sell my Xperia X8 either. The sales guys at the retailer are ready to pay me more then I bought it for. He, He.

Anix, good that you were able to root your phone, but without radio and gps, i guess it has lost some functionality.

When XDA developers are able to do this, why not SE techies, i guess they don't care for x8 anymore , now they care only for x10 series  mobiles.

BTW, how is the phone with the new software, is it giving any trouble

Yeah, i am with you, I will never again will go for SE products after seeing this one, and will also advise my friends and relatives to look for a better alternative.

Wish i could have bought the Samsung phones ( which are truly VFMs)

i cant move all the downloading like software , games to sd card, my xperia x8 is 2.1 version, even i go to android market, i also cant founf the Apps2SD. what should i do? can u help me?
