Hi,
I own the amazing K750i, still in love with the phone but planning to upgrade to a many-in-one device.
I don't want to carry a music player, GPS, camera, FM radio and phone as separate devices and I found X8 as one of the few phones which looks good as well as have all the mentioned functions available for a reasonable rate. (I read others are kind of hyped, tying to keep up with the selling price of iPhone).
K750i was good because I could customize it a lot.
But Alas!! Android 1.6 for Xperia X8?
Questions:
1. Is upgrade possible to Android 2.2 (Froyo) or above? (2.1 is still not good as I cannot move apps to SD card)
(For K750i I got 2 firmware updates at least!!)
2. Can multiple playlists be created for the music you have on the phone? (I hear music from around 6 different languages)
3. Is there a limit on the number of applications that can be installed? (Other that internal memory (128MB) which 2.2 or above can solve)
4. Will there be a X8 Pro or something of that sort soon for a slightly higher price tag? (Possibly a black model with 2.2 and a camera flash +)
(I know this cannot be answered now, but out of curiosity...)
5. With there be more talk time and standby time with Android 2.1 and above?
Regards,
Winny

Firstly sorry for the delayed response. No I am not using Floyo 0.3.0(custom version of FROYO) but not because of any issues. It was the most stable ROM I used and I still have the backup. but if you have rooted and got your x recovery backup Hurrah you are past the bricking phase. Now you can keep trying different ROMs (and trust me you cant just stop with one).
I currently use kuyaDroid 3.2.175 (Gingerbread 2.3.5) as it has a much smaller footprint (for our RAM starved X8) so is fater. But is as stable as Floyo.
One suggestion keep taking a weekly backup using xrecovery once you have a custom rom, so ensure you have at least 3 backups on your SDcard.
And oh yes, occassionally move your good backups to your laptop. I once screwed up my SDcard and had to reformat it.
Dont overclock your X8 to 800Mhz as it leads to stability issues though much faster.
Oh and have you heard about the Carrier IQ logger. Havign a custom ROM is a sureshot way to get rid of Carrier IQ though I dont know if Sony ever isntalled any on their phones unlike HTC.
For guys who are afraid of rooting go for the Sony Live with Walkman (upgraded version of X8 with better hardware and Gingerbread.
ok so if you see on page 10 i have writen about how i need 2.2 froyo for xperia x8 and all but a couple of days ago i was searching through my phone and i went on to the support app and sent sony ericsson support team about the update and they said there is no further update so whatever you do, do not root your phone or use a software not made by sony ericsson as your warranty will go and you have a risk to brick your phone so if your phone breaks you will have to buy a new one. however if you want some features from android 2.3 onwards in a safe way which i am using is go on android market and search up e.g: android 2.3 luancher or go launcher ex. i would recomend go launcher ex as if you download it you can get ice cream sandwich or even windows 7 or iphone theme . as much as i know you cant do multi touch or get apps2sd and the keyboard for the key board go on market and get ics keyboard + ics keyboard settings then go into settings and enable ics keyboard and go on the app itself then do the next thing and you will have ice cream sandwich keyboard. by the way this is all free so hope it helps and enjoy!!!
SE is somehow compromising on this device... solo developers can make a stable 2.2 or even 2.3... 4.0 is on alpha porting stage now... can't understand SE... They can't update wherein they are the manufacturers but solo dev can
Sony Ericsson,I`m not the only one hope for this, but all X8 users does. Why don`t you want to provide upgrade atleast Froyo for this device? The Cynogenmod 6 running on x8 is very stable..if a solo developer can make a froyo rom stable, why can`t Sony ericsson manufactures can`t?the functions of x8 running eclair is very limited.i think upgrade froyo for this device is not a problem at all,and i hope, pinch n zoom works as well..i hope Sony Ericsson can reply my thread as soon as possible...Thank You
Happy New Year! Wake up my friend. SE just doesn't care. Which is why I decided to opt for one of the two most popular Android brands, HTC. Just look at the smartphone sales and it tells you the story. on the one hands you have Samsung who decided against ICs for one of the Galaxy models and had to rethink after a lot of customer complaints and on the other you have SE who just abandon great hardware like X10 and X8. I almost sol off this phone for $20 until I thought I would study and try what rooting my phone was. The worst to happen would be a bricked phone else Yahoo. Been using a rooted phone for over a year with many different ROM's and both Floyo and Kuyadroid were great. Couple it with Go Launcher and the X8 still has the hardware to run fast without hanging. No FC's for over 8 months.
SE has official made it CLEAR. NO MORE UPDATEs for 2010 phones. you want an upgrade you are going to have to get it yourself. Try Cyanogenmod they have an official version for Shakira now.
Maybe my last post on this forum
Oh and I forgot. SE already upgraded the X8 but you have to buy it to get the upgrade. It's called WT19 or Sony Live.
can give me the link please?
Dont know if SE allows for these links. But here it is and NOTE:
rooting will void your warranty fromSony and the retailer. If you dont want apps2sd then one of the launcher's is recommended. However if you are past your warranty and want the features of Android 2.2 or 2.3 then here it is.
READ CAREFULLY AND FOLLOW PROPERLY LEST YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE AND DONT BLAME ME OR ANDROID FORUMS OR XDA DEVELOPERS
Once you are past the root acces the danger of bricking your phone is past and then you are ready to have complete control over your phone. But besure to install Xrecovery and backup your phone every week onto your SD so that you can always expirement.
Here's some Gingerbread ROM's
http://androidforums.com/x8-all-things-root/298647-rom-v21b-2-3-5-gingerxperia-rom-x8.html
If you have FC(forecloses) the Floyo 2.2 is a very stable ROM
NOTE: ROM FLASHING is very addictive. Like Lays you cant just stop with one. MY X8 has so far safely handled everything I have thrown at it with initial FC with a couple of early ROM's
All the best
okay, so i flashed a rom, and my carrier changes from "A" to carrier "B". Would and carrier "A" shares network? or whatever you call it with Carrier "B" CAN I get in troubel for flashing a rom like that with the carrier's name on the phone change?
