Xperia V random freeze in standby

Hi,

I got my Xperia V a couple of weeks ago and I am really pleased with it. I only have one problem which I do not know how to fix. Sometimes when the phone is in standby, I cannot turn it on again by pressing the power button. There is absolutely no response whenI do so. I can see the phone is still on because when I have a message, the LED is blinking. The only thing that works is taking out the battery and power it back up. I think it has happend to me 4 times over the past 2 weeks.

Is this a known issue to Sony and what should I do?

Best Regards,

Ulrich

To : Everyone experiencing problems on their Xperia V:

You are all correct in thinking that Sony should be keeping in touch with you via this forum about the progress of any solution. Either Sony don't care because you have already either paid for your phone or signed up to a long contract or they simply do not know what the problem is, have no solution, and have decided to hide away and leave you with a problem you cannot solve and should not have to anyway. It is totally unacceptable as the V is a new phone. I have read of Xperia S and Xperia Neo V phones also freezing. It could be a common problem.

Meanwhile on Sony's Facebook sites like Sony Mobile and Sony Mobile GB the company continues to post daily features selling its upcoming Xperia Z, extolling its virtues and no word of course about the unsolved problems you are all having with your new Xperia V phones - 10 pages of similar comments now and still they keep coming in!

Is this acceptable from a company which has reportedly just replaced HTC as the second largest Andoid phone manufacturer? What does it say about the upcoming Xperia Z and other Sony phones due for release in 2013? Will they experience similar problems? If so, presumably Sony will just ignore the owners and keep up the sales talk.

You are correct to have registered your problems and displeasure on this official Sony site but nobody else willl see this. You need to make it more public and force Sony to confront the issue, if only to pay you the basic respect in keeping in touch with you. It is very rude and terrible customer service.

So all of you should individually write/email to any independent mobile phone magazines and other public media with your comments here, and include a link to this site so that they can see the extent of the communal problem you are all experiencing, and of how has failed to solve the problems and contimnues to ignore you. Such ongoing problems have been commonly experienced by owners of ealier Sony Xperia models. If the company will not act properly and fairly towards you, then force them to do so publicly. Any negative effect incurred will clearly be its own fault. Only then perhaps might Sony learn to take customer service and satisfaction seriously!

Here is the a link to the Sony Mobile Facebook site. Just 'Like' the page to add your comments on it. But make sure you write to independent media or you will continue to be ignored.

I also asked her when, but she was not sure! She had my number, said would let me know once the new version was released!

I was angry and speechless.

Hi all. I'm from Singapore and bought the phone roughly in mid December. I'm running the phone on 9.0D0.484.

I have the same issue with SOD problems, so I decided to chip in my own little investigations.

When I initially got my phone, I was switching over from a line that had no network/3G/LTE connection and whatnot. So, for the first 48 hours, I had no network access. Therefore, I relied solely on wifi connection at my home, and I had -no- issue whatsoever with this SOD. It was only when my data plan came into activation on my phone, did I start experiencing SOD issues.

As mentioned by many, the SOD issue always comes when my phone has been idle for at least several hours, the biggest pain is when I use it as an alarm clock and SOD strikes in the middle of the night, causing my phone to not wake me up. Annoyed, I started using permutations/etc of options and settings and this is what I've discovered.

- Apps have no effect/causality regarding the SOD, I've been activating/deactivating all my apps, core or non-core one by one and had found no difference.

- I believe I have isolated it to the wifi/4G/3G issue

- All the times I've had SOD affect me was when I had WIFI on, and my data off.

- But it made no sense, as that was the settings that I used my phone initially when I first got it, and I experienced zero SOD issues.

- So, I tried a new idea, although I had LTE connection, I forced myself to seek only WCDMA/GSM networks, and have never turned my wifi on no matter what happened.

- I've been 3 days free of SOD, when it has been occuring almost on a daily basis.

My own flimsy conclusion : I think the problem lies in some odd interaction between the wifi/LTE network capabilities, no matter your data being turned on or off, as long as your phone is set to access a LTE connection, while you have your WIFI on, SOD occurs.

I see some people claim that updating to 9.0.1.D.0.10 has solved the issues, and I read somewhere else that it causes the "LTE" symbol to turn into a "4G" symbol in the phone. Therefore, I hope that maybe it could have fixed this odd little bug that is going on. As I mentioned before, I live in SG, so I'm still waiting for 9.0.1.D.0.10 to come out. Until then, going to stick to these settings.

Yes, I am annoyed that I can't make full use of my phone, but I really like this device a lot, and am willing to sacrifice abit to make it run efficiently for my needs.

I have been experimenting configuration similar to what Bicko is seeing. I just turned off wifi for the last couple of days while retaining everything else (LTE is still on). I haven't have a SOD yet and the battery history is much better, with Android OS not being the main culprit of battery usage. I am running 9.0.D.0.484 (thought I was on newer)

Is this a satisfactory solution? Of course not, but at least it's better than waking up with a dead phone every night. I will probably wait a month and if there's no permanent software fix from Sony I will probably return this phone.

In my case (I'm from Russia firmware 9.0D0.484) when I bought the phone I didn't  use it with the sim. Also I have not installed third party apps. Wi fi was off. All the coonectivities  were off. I used standart apps and functions just for test. So the phone was:

no sim or memory card inside

no custom applications

no usb or BT or wi fi connections

GPS off

There was SOD.

And as I wrote, the SOD happens after intense using the phone and experiencing significant discharging the battery. Either I ran every standart application and pressed 'home' after launching, to make apps been stayed in memory. After this I obtained the SOD in short period of time(several minutes). So it can be the hardware probem with memory or battery or software, which can provoke the memory leakage or 100% loading the cpu.

The support, answering my mail about this advised me to change the phone.

I am also having the SOD problem. It usually happens when the phone's been inactive for a while. The SOD occurs when Wi-Fi  is either on or off.

I find it very annoying and I hope Sony finds a solution to the problem. Besides this I'm very pleased with the phone.
