Xperia SP touchscreen misbehaving.

Bought a brand new Xperia SP last week from a local Sony store. However, within 2 days, I felt disappointed to see the touchscreen malfunction from time to time. The touchscreen feels especially glitchy after using the phone for a few hours. The problem being: after continuous usage (for a few hours or so), the touchscreen suddenly stops responding to touches. This issue is temporarily resolved by locking and unlocking the phone. However, it repeats after 3-4 minutes once again until I completely restart the phone. Then, it comes back again after a few hours.

Apart from this, another type of touchscreen issue I'm facing is that during the abovementioned time of unresponsiveness, the screen sometimes registers a single touch as multiple touches, as in ghost touches. If I'm playing a game, the game goes totally haywire, or if I'm in the normal homescreen or such, it opens up a number of applications, settings, and so on. This can be compared to a similar defect in PC, where some bug causes multiple windows of search, calculator, browser, etc to open up and fill up the monitor screen.

I'm sad to see my new phone, that too a relatively recently launched model, behave like this and am at a loss about what to do. Any help is appreciated. Please recommend...

PS: I don't think it's due to overload on the RAM or the processor, because I rarely open more than 3 programs at a time, and after I close an application, I remove it from the 'recently used' screen, and then use a task killer (ZDBox) to kill all unnecessary non-system tasks...

Thanks but I already tried that as soon as I discovered this problem. It's disabled right now, but the 'ghost-touch' problem persists... Anything else?

same with me i just came here to report this problem.

strangely after using my SP one month without any problem, it starts rejecting my touches until i unlock the phone again . its not because of any ram or processor overloading coz i have only 2-3 apps on my phone and i just perform a hard-reset( the problem begins after reset ), previously i used my SP for heavy gaming and nearly 800 mb remaining on my sp but it works good .

Same problem here, it occurs about once a week. I found a workaround, which works sometimes (but not always) - I use the camera button, which make touch screen to response.

I have had to do HW reset few times. It seems to get worse over last few weeks.

this problem come when u r using other charger for charging or charge with computer or using mobile while charging so start charging with Sony own chager and not use with charging

@1rohanlove - The phone should be fine charging with an original Sony Mobile charger, however third party chargers may put through the wrong voltage which will cause issues with the touch screen. Occasionally this can happen if there is a fault with the USB port on a PC if charging that way too.

I faced this problem too. Touch screen just stopped working!

But issue occured without charger connected. I got a incoming call and there was no way I could accept it.

Display on/off didn't help too.

I can't even restart the phone as touch just didn't accept it.  It was frustrating as I can't even remove the battery as it is embedded within.

Finally I figured it out by removing the SIM  card and phone restarted itself.  Thanks God!

Really disappointed with Sony to put this crap phone on sale. They should have tested it thoroughly before!
