I recently purchased a Sony Xperia S LT26i, when checked total storage space, it shows 25.8GB + 1.78GB(phone memory), its almost 4GB less that what it is supposed to be(32GB).
How can support help on this.
This was asked ealier in another thread here
So from an expert namely me I'll try and explain
Gigabyte is completely the wrong terminology to use and we are trying to get it changed to Gibibyte and here's why
Operating systems calculate disk and file sizes using binary numbers, so a new 32 GB Xperia S drive you've just purchased would be reported by the OS as "29.80 GB" (Meaning 29.80 GiB)
So straight away you've lost 2.20 GB add to that the space taken for the actual O/S and you're about right with whats been reported.
It is commonly thought that there is 1000MB some say 1024MB to 1GB computers read 1073MB as 1GB due to the binary and or the way the disk is read
So to calculate 3200(GB) divided by 1073(What the computer reads) times 1000 = 29.82GB aka 29.80Gibibyte
If you ever want to test the actual space that a Pc etc will read add a few Zero's
IE:32GB add 2 Zeros (Less than 100) 100 and above add 3 zeros up to 1TB add 4 Zeros then dived by 1073 always then times by 1000 always
And the answer in that thread mentioned above is wrong mine is correct and official
Trust me I'm M/S certified and teach Comp TIA A+ to students and this question is always asked
