Xperia M2 Camera Blurry, No Details (sample images inside)...

Hey there!

Not sure, if this is a lens or software issue, but images which I take with M2 are just awful. Blurred, lack of detail. I also have Xperia Arc, which is a 2+ year old phone, and if I compare images, pictures taken with M2 (8mpix) are just far worse. Any sollution to that, or is it only me lucky again with some faulty Sony phone. In short, should I return my phone back or is there any software sollution incoming? Slightly_smiling_Face

Greetings!

Just an update on mine, I bought some nail polish remover  - with acetone and gave it a thorough scrub. I think it has made a small difference but not substantial. Certainly the magenta coloured coating is still mostly there albeit quite fragmented. I can also see some dust has become lodged between the outer glass and the lens itself. Thats definitely not going to help matters. I presume opening the phone to remove that is going to be a tricky procedure? Yes I know I could take it to an authorised dealer or have it sent off for repair etc under warranty, but for me (and presumably for many others) I cannot be without my phone as I rely on it too heavily.

I'm currently using my old phone (a Nokia N8) as my camera and uploading the images tethered by wifi off the M2 for any special occasions that I need decent pictures. Inconvenient yes but until I can afford to replace this phone (18month contract), I'll have to make do.

If anybody has any advice about opening the device to clean or upgrade the lens via some sorta hack, that would be useful. I'm not hugely concerned with voiding my warranty.

Hi. I have to apologize for my bad english. I resolved camera issue but probably i lost my waranty but i still dont know that. Main problem is in lens and coating on it. That blueish coat is the main problem. I took credit card and try to rub len carefully an than i took stick for ear cleaning and put some toothpaste and polished lens till glass was perfect clear. Since then pictures all great.

I did think of using Toothpaste but thought it might be too abrasive and damage the glass under that blue coating. If you've had good results with it though, I'm definitely going to try it too!

Thank you, the tooth paste worked. The one I used felt very fine on my finger tips. An ear bud, toothpaste and carefully rubbing the lens cover took away the patchiness and gave much better pics.

I tried toothpaste today, must say it seems to have helped quite a lot.

I just used some sheets of tissue and some cheap plain white toothpaste and scrubbed for a couple of minutes.

I could see the blue on the tissue I'd used from the coating coming away from the lens.

In scrubbing I seem to also have moved a peice of dust that was behind the lens so that problem seems to be resolved now too.

Much better!

hello! I am just wondering if rubbing toothpaste on the camera lens and removing the the blue covering void the warranty of the phone...

The Sony Experia M2 is the worst camera phone I have owned, it is never sharp, it hunts for focus all the time, my Experia Ray which is 3yrs old is by far superior. If it's a good camera phone you are looking for then the M@ is not for you.

Following a post elsewhere I cleaned the lense with a polishing compound (T-cut) and it has made a great difference to picture quality. it's as though the lense coating had become clouded over time, and coldn't be removed by normal cleaning.
