Does XPeria E have a hardware or firmware problem?
I just purchased a new XPeria E and it has been a HUGE disappointment!!
It does not connect to my home wi-fi router (Linksys) - tried everything WPA, WPA2, WEP, etc.. Its wi-fi does not work except with open networks. Everything else (Samsung smartphone, Nokia Lumia, and an older XPeria phone and laptop) work just fine.
I read somewhere that wireless security should be disabled in order for the phone to connect - this is ridiculous. Why should anyone have to disable wireless security just for the phone? I mean at malls or public places it is understandable, but for my private network why should I disable security?
This phone has been such a let down - the only Sony product I purchased in a long time and that too turned out to be a dud.
To the guys at Sony: Wake up!! Your brand has become much bigger than your quality...it will not sell any more if things go on like this!
Wifi works for me, but only for certain routers. Yes, "even" when secured.
Well, apart from my home wi-fi, I am not sure if it can connect to other wi-fi hosts simply because I do not know their passwords.
So here is a low down on where it works and does not:
Open network - detects and connects.
Public secure network - detects the network and the type of security, but could not check if it connects since I do not have their passwords.
My home network - detects the network and the type of security, but does not connect despite providing correct password. Tried changine the security type, double-triple checked the MAC address list etc. Did a factory reset too....but nothing works. It simply detects the network and says "Saved" upon trying to connect.
You mentioned about it working only with certain routers - is Linksys WAG200G in the list? Frustrating!!
I haven't tried with a LinkSys router.
Wifi works for me with various TPLink routers and a Belkin router. It does not work for me for an ancient Fritzbox (AVM) nor for an ancient Telekom Speedport.
It would be awesome if Sony could actually comment on this; otherwise I'll return the product soonish.
What surpises me most is that despite so many people facing the same issue, Sony has not released any patch or update...not even information. All they have to say is restart this, restart that, allow MAC and so on - which I guess any one with knowledge of setting up wi-fi would already try.
Yes, this is totally frustrating. It appears they can live with that though.
I guess for them, helping us (by releasing a patch/information) would be akin to accepting that there is a problem - and therefore accepting that the "brand" is bad. Never mind that the "brand" is anyways getting beaten by lousy products! Just to add - its been only three days since purchase and the phone already has started acting up - now its the FM radio app - it hangs every now and then! So two "minor niggles" within 3 days of purchase: The wi-fi and the FM radio. Great!
Add another one to the list: The walkman (or music player) app. I have noticed that the audio drops (somewhat like CD skipping) randomly while tracks are playing. I am suspecting that there is a memory problem somewhere because with other phones I have seen such things happening only if a lot of apps are running simultaneously. This has been the most disappointing purchase of my life till date!
An update: Tried by resetting the router to factory setting - so all security everything was removed. So I did the basic setup (ISP ceredentials and other parameters) and turned on wifi on my xperia. Nothing happened...still the same as before, it simply said "Connecting" and then stopped saying "Saved". No connection yet.
So, it is established that at least with this router the phone's wifi does not work. Having to change the router to suit the phone is out of question! That's it, the end of sony products as far as I am concerned. I'll never buy another sony product again.
Could you please send me your details in a PM, and I will forward this.
