X10 Gingerbread Update Issues

Hi

I have recently update my x10 to the 2.3.3 system only to find 3 issues after the update.

Timescape no longer accepts/reads/syncs text messages into the program. The following appears on either Timescape or Messages:

Sorry!

The application Messaging

extension (process

com.sonyericsson.eventstream.

telphonyplugin) has stopped

unexpectedly. Please try again.

Force Close.

Also the camera light now fails to operate.

And the MP3 player now has a series of chirps/skips in the songs as they're played - probably every minute or so.

Using the headphones or not fail to make a difference. This also occurs using Power Amp media player.

Sony's idea was to reinstall the update - which has had no effect.

My wife also has the same phone. And the same issues.....

Has anyone else Xperia-nced this? (Sorry, bad pun..)

What version of the 2.3.3 update do you have?

What I mean is it a global generic version?

How  did you perform the update? ie via the SE update service, PC Companion  or via the unofficial method of flashing the firmware manually?

I have also recently updated my X10 to v2.3.3 to the Global Generic version via the manual update method.

I have used the information from the following post to get the firmware

http://talk.sonyericsson.com/thread/19735

I have no problems with the camera light and Power Amp. I don't use Timescape so wont be able to comment.

Most likely it also works.

You may want to perform a manual update of the firmware to see if it fixes your problem.

Please backup any information before if you decide proceed with the manual firmware update.

I had used the PC Companion to update the software.

I'm kinda an amature on this as this is my first Smart Phone and I've only had it approx 2 months.

Android Version 2.3.3

Baseband Version 2.1.71

Build Number 3.0.1.G.0.75

Any of this helpful....?

You can try to use PC Companion to to perform the update again but this time choose the repair option.

It sometimes helps.

If you still have problems, then you might want to try the manual update method.

Thanks but I have tried the 'Repair' option already to no avail.

Might have to give the Manual update a go.....

Performing the update the manual way is quite simple.

Basically you need to :

1. Download the relevant firmware, in this case the global generic v2.3.3 to your PC.

2. Download the flash tool and install in on your PC( This is the program that will transfer the firmware to your phone)

3. A PC and a the USB cable for your phone to connect to the PC.

Of course not forgetting to backup the phone.

If you read through the posts I listed, it describes what you need to do.

It may be intimidating but if you perform the steps carefully, step by step, the manual update should work.

Many other people have done it successfully.

Sweet, I shall dive head first and see how we go.

Many thanks for your valuable time. Much appreciated.

I shall let you know how it goes.......

Good luck and hope it fixes your problem.

Another thing, when using the flash tool, there is an option to wipe user data that is ticked. Do not untick it. If you do you will face problems.

Another thing is that after the update, you may face a message that some android.media process needs to be forced closed.

If you do experience this, you try to use PC Companion to repair the the update.

If that does not work, you need to reformat and erase the SD card using the phone.

Unmount and then the option to erase the card becomes available to select

So before you proceed, with the manual update,

1. Install the Back Up and Restore App and perform the backup.

2. Once the back up is complete, connect the phone to your PC via the USB cable to copy the back up file located on the SD card in the /data/backup/ folder to your PC

Then you can start to perform the manual firmware update

Step 2 mentioned above is done in case you need to reformat the SD card after the update(to get rid of the android.media error message), which means the backup you have just done will be lost but since you have saved a copy of the back up file on your pc, you can always transfer it back to the phone and reinstall the Backup and Restore app on the phone to restore your backup.

Hope you are not confused.

Good luck and I just also updated with some preliminary steps to take before performing the update.

One more thing doing the manual firmware update will mean any operator specific versions of the firmware will be lost which is usually a good thing as then the phone boots faster.

I also have the same problem about the media player. I saw some posts on SE's facebook page & there are a LOT of people with this issue.

They gave a few possible solutions like reinstalling, installed and tried a different media player, repairing through PC companion and also to reset media storage. I have tried all of these and still have the problem. Clearing the media storage made it better but it now seems to be getting worse again. Basically I have tried everything advised and all the things mentioned in the above suggestions, but nothing is working. I need SE to sort it out!!!

This is really disapointing that SE would release this version that has apparently so many problems. Do people not test before they roll updates out? Pretty amateur really.

They better fix it or let us change back to the older version as at least the phone worked.

I am getting pretty pissed now as this is a high end device, you would think it would at least do what it is intended to do.

I have had SE phone for ever, but if this is not fixed FAST I will be changing to a more competent companies phone.

Also, a reply from SE telling us what they are going to do about the problem would also be appreciated. Just letting people go on disapointed and frustrated is not doing your brand any good!!
