windows 8.1 wont recognize xperia sp anymore

Windows says it can't recognize the usb device when I plug the phone in. Can't connect to pc companion without usb (!) so it's impossible to pair the two. Luckily I have asus motherboard and the phone app lets me do some things but I would really like to get the pc companion working too. Why can't I pair my phone and pc trough wifi only? Is the usb incompatibility problem some how related to microsoft not wanting me to use nothing but windows phones on their system and if so can't you sue them?

(usb connection to phone worked fine before windows system update couple of months ago.)

And I really don't want to reinstall usb drivers, my computer has no ps2 ports so if it fails I have no mouse or kayboard. Also everything else works fine on the usb. Using the cable provided with the phone.

ggest you to try connect the phone to your PC with another USB cable or test it with another PC to confirm if the phone is alright.

YOu may also want to enable the USB debug on developer option to see if that helps your pc to recognise your phone.

In the Search box, type device manager, and then press enter.

Microsoft Windows 8 users

Click the Desktop Tile to open the Desktop.
Click >> at the bottom right of the taskbar.
Select Control Panel from the Menu.
Select Device Manager from the list of control panel items.
Note: If you do not see the screen with the Device Manager option, click the View by drop-down menu and select Small icons.

Microsoft Windows XP and 2000 users

To open Device manager on your computer

On the desktop, right-click on My Computer and click Properties.
In the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab.
In the Hardware, tab click the Device Manager button.

To reinstall the drivers for your device

Scroll down to the Universal Serial Bus controllers (USB section) of the Device Manager window.
Look for an MTP Device: Media Device, Unknown Device or any other reference to your phone. Click on this entry and choose "Uninstall" whilst leaving the device connected.
Wait a few minutes, and the computer will reinstall the drivers for the device.
Now, the phone is accessible via Computer/My Computer on your computer.
