Wifi turns off automatically to save power then never turns on again

I've had a problem with my phone lately: whenever I leave the house and my WiFi the WiFi turns off automatically, all good in the hood. But then when I come back home, it used to turn itself back on. Now, it doesn't. Consequently, I have repeatedly forgotten to manually turn on WiFi which means my phone is happily spending all my mobile data, long before the month is over. I want to disable this feature but can no longer find the Power management in settings. Please help.

@Tomtebobarnet

Is your phone running Marshmallow or lollipop?

Marshmallow I think! 6.0.1 right?

That's indeed Marshmallow

Settings > battery usage > menu > battery saver

Yes, but I've had that switched off the whole time. Do you suggest I turn it on?

It should begin to reconnect to WiFi when the screen is turned back on.

Yeah, it doesn't though. I haven't had battery saver on at all. Recently I read about some STAMINA mode which disappeared with an Xperia update? I remember switching something on months ago but now I can't find it to turn it off.

Few questions: when this happens, if you reboot the phone... Does your phone reconnect the wifi?

Is your wifi router dual band? Could you try to disable the 5ghz band on the router and checking if by chance the phone connect?

Hi @Tomtebobarnet,

The functionality you are describing sounds like Location Based Wi-Fi, which was removed in Lollipop. Stamina mode was removed in Marshmallow but may return in some form in future updates.

Can you go please go to Settings > Wifi > Menu > Advanced. There is an option here to "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep". What do you have this set to?

Hi Cameron, it's set to "Always". Is that right?
