Hi,
I have this problem, that when I connect to the internet with my Xperia P throu wifi it will connect but after a minute it will not load pages anymore.
Everything works fine when connecting to the internet with DATA TRAFFIC.....what should i do?
Please help - everything was fine before with Gingerbread.
I updated to ICS yesterday on the 24th/aug.12.
Would it help if i repair the firmware? - and when repairing will all my previously installed Apps be deleted?
I'm from Estonia!
Best regards,
Thank you....
Mario
I saw quite a couple of people viewed the captured I posted online. I think I should post a few more.
@ iproute, can you suggest me any changes in the way i capture the packets this time? or any more fine tuning required?
@ xga01, yes buddy we all are facing that issue, but what i was thingking is that if Sony changes their marketing strategy and sell these mobiles like wifi jammer, maybe they'll sell like hot cakes
LOL
wifi jammers - good one!
If I remember correctly you used Omnipeek to do the capture? I've heard good things about it and I know Cisco engineers also use it but I don't have any experience with it.
With Wireshark there are a few things that you may want to tweak especially if your network has encryption. All of them are explained here - http://wiki.wireshark.org/HowToDecrypt802.11 (just one page). One of the most important ones is to start the capture before the phone has authenticated to the AP so that it can see the handshake and then be able to decrypt the traffic.
Also make sure you are capturing on the same channel on which the phone is using
In terms of methodology - I try to capture a few seconds at least of when the phone actually works so that the engineers would be sure that the behavior isn't caused by lack of internet connectivity. It will also let them compare the packets of when the phone works to a few minutes (or even seconds) later when it stops.
Off to write a paper for Blackhat on how to use a phone for a DOS attack of a wifi network

By the way this problem will be now even more widespread since the bug is apparently present in the update pushed to U, go and sola in the 6.1.1.B.1.10 firmware.
Never has a positive message like "Your phone is up to date" been more irritating...
Come on Sony - of all the bugs that are reported in this forum this one should be both - a priority and easily fixed. It's not an outlandish request like "I want my battery to last for 20 hours while I play angry birds and now I am mad at Sony even though I knew fully well when I bought the phone that the battery capacity is about 1300mah"...
I responded to an xperia sola owner on the xda forums, who is also experiencing wifi problems. As iproute said, it looks like its getting to be a more widespread issue now that ICS has rolled out to most. I might give engagdet a shout with a link to this thread to see if they'd bring some attention to it, that might at least help Sony acknowledge the issue and let us know what they're doing to remedy it. Using mobile data ONLY for the foreseeable future just isn't on Sony
Any updates from Sony Mobile Support?
Is the bug acknowkledged by Sony Mobile Support?
Is an update of the Sony Xperia P planned in the foreseeable future that may include a fix?
That is a good idea - by all means try engadget. I tried the xperia blog when this thread was in its infancy but they didn't publish anything...
No updates yet. I just wrote to the guy asking what is the status of this issue and if I get a reply will post it here. The last time I asked (a few weeks ago) he told me that they are looking into it.
I haven't seen an official acknowledgement (if by official you mean a statement from Sony on its public channels).
I tried to capture packets again, but this time i was not able to
Courtsy my Xperia P failing to detect my wifi, which has hidden BSSID and WPA 2 encrypted.
I guess the Sony engineers need to take a note of this also, if they are serious about resolving the wifi issue.
I gave engadget the info, up to them now whether they give it any attention or not.
Also, I was talking to one of the Sony support guys on livechat earlier, he said an update is in the works that does help with wifi connectivity, but couldn't give any sort of a release date
Ok... Regardless of Wi-Fi issues does anyone have problems with data connection (GPRS or EDGE) or is it only me?
About Wi-Fi, I found that only Netgear works great with the new update with no issues at all, N is enables and I can use any kind of protection.
