Warning - ICS Update Broke Hotspot and USB Tether

ST18a updated this afternoon to the second release of ICS (was using first release previous to this).

USB Tethering and Wi-Fi Hotspot are no longer working.  I can connect and get an IP address but no internet access.

This is real bad since this is a primary use for my phone.

UPDATE: Confirmed same behavior with a second laptop ... I can connect to the Wi-Fi hotspot on my phone but no internet access.

UPDATE: iPad via Wi-Fi Hotspot, same thing, gets IP address but no internet access.

That's a particular fix for a particular company, and, gladly for you, it works, but doesn't with other operators. I asked that question several weeks ago there at

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1731274&page=2

And I got these replies

It is quite deep in the ROM, fixing it can be quite a challenge for us.

(...)

I can't, I do not have time, neither do I have a phone to test it.

We have no special APN. On the configuration app, it downloads automatically for any operator and it works. I've got no T-Mobile US APN and this is how I configure mine. I add "dun, internet" at end on APN Type and didn't work either.

plus the question:

WHY DID THIS ALL WORK WITH THE FIRST RELEASE OF ICS?

Can't Sony's developers check their code between these two releases and see what was changed?

I've been following your guys' thread a few weeks now. Annoying there is no real solution yet. Is it just me or does this only seem to be affecting S***a models?

I'm on AT&T US as well and have the same issues. In fact would have never even known about the issue until I read this forum. Didn't even bother trying/testing after the update.

As for the people who keep saying so and so is wrong and that creating a new APN works, please stop. Obviously it is only working for certain phones/carriers. It would be helpful as someone suggested to say what phone you have, what provider, and where you're located. If you live around the world and a fix worked for you, it doesn't mean it works for everyone.

Hopefully Sony can get this resolved quick... I've had my phone for less than a year and bought it specifically for the wifi tethering like a lot of you did...

TonyCool:

Can you send me your full APN configuration? You are in the US? Europe? China? and your service provider, is? Before ICS (Gigerbread) how many APN did you have? One? two? One for Internet and one for MMS? please I need your full APN settings to try something. I hope you can help me... thanks!

I still waiting TonyCool. I know that you (and the the other guys in here) must add another Apn to manage tethering (dun). I'll wait your answer. Sony HAVE to fix this, I'm agree do that, and must to recognize this also. Thanks. 🙂

Any update on this matter? I have the same problem.

WiFi tethering allow my laptop to connect but no internet access.

My phone is LT15i (Arc) with ICS 4.1.B.0431. Operator is Telkomsel Indonesia.

Before upgrade it was working fine and I used the tethering everyday for work.

as2003,

Make sure you call in to Sony Support and it gets logged in their system.  They will ask you to run the PCC repair but that is a waste of time.  Just tell them you already did that.

They will offer option to send your phone to Sony Service to roll back to GB.  That is what I did.

I chatted yesterday with sony support in France, Laurent told me an update will be available in the middle of august. I dout they can make it that fast, but at least they aknowledge  the issue and we can leave the phone alone til they privide a fix.
