Warning - ICS Update Broke Hotspot and USB Tether

ST18a updated this afternoon to the second release of ICS (was using first release previous to this).

USB Tethering and Wi-Fi Hotspot are no longer working.  I can connect and get an IP address but no internet access.

This is real bad since this is a primary use for my phone.

UPDATE: Confirmed same behavior with a second laptop ... I can connect to the Wi-Fi hotspot on my phone but no internet access.

UPDATE: iPad via Wi-Fi Hotspot, same thing, gets IP address but no internet access.

Try another app, like pdanet, easy tether or clockworkmod. A bothering thing is to install a client or extra setup on the computer.

Had to use PdaNet and it´s working now, but just the USB Tether, does anybody knows an app that allows hotspot?

Yes i did the same i tried easytether but it wasnt recognized by the pc so i tried pdanet and it worked but through usb connnection. I miss my wifi hotspot. 

I have a SK17a mini pro 2, in colombia with movistar, btw.

Bottom line is Sony ICS upgrade broke tethering on all SxxxA phones, I have ST17a. I really don't want to root my phone to downgrade. Sony should fix this issue or give option to downgrade officially ourselves instead of sending phones back to service center.

But the weird thing... IT WORKED 30minutes at last weekend!! So, I updated it at last thursday (21/7) , tethering at saturday (23/7) and it worked about 30minutes.

Now I tested it again (27/7), no USB/wlan network anymore.

hi, i updated my Xperia Mini to ICS and im ALSO having the Same Problem. i can't do USB Tethering. when i try to connect to my laptop, it shows 2 networks and one is unidentified network. plzzzz HELP....thnx

You can downgrade to official unmodified firmware for your region with WotanServer. It will cost 2 euros for 5 firmware flashes, but I'm sure that's cheaper than sending your phone to a service center. And you won't have to miss your phone.

- Create an account

- Buy credits (2 euros will give you 5 times of flashing firmware)

- Find your phone

- Scroll down to the bottom and click "WotanClient 3" under downloads

- Run WotanClient and follow the steps to connect your phone

- Select your firmware customization/region

Actually is not 100% necessary. There are several freeware flashing tools and almost any firmware can be found on the internet...
