Warning - ICS Update Broke Hotspot and USB Tether

ST18a updated this afternoon to the second release of ICS (was using first release previous to this).

USB Tethering and Wi-Fi Hotspot are no longer working.  I can connect and get an IP address but no internet access.

This is real bad since this is a primary use for my phone.

UPDATE: Confirmed same behavior with a second laptop ... I can connect to the Wi-Fi hotspot on my phone but no internet access.

UPDATE: iPad via Wi-Fi Hotspot, same thing, gets IP address but no internet access.

what I did exactly is.

went to..

settings

more..

mobile networks

access point names

     here I had a single APN which was a "wap" type

     I deleted this and genearted a new one which is a "internet" type

after this.. wifi and usb hotspot started working properly, and also the problem with viber and fring disappeared.

Did you opened APN config and change "APN type" from "wap" to "internet"?

no just deleted the existing one (which was "wap")

then generated a new one (which to be "internet")

Sorry, but mine was wap too, I just added a new APN with my operator's Internet, and it didn't work either.

Besides it, yesterday I tried with "phone-to-phone tether" (a phone without data plan connected to mine via WiFi) and nothing.

This problem looks like it's global... does anyone knows anything about it?

My ST18a Ray is back from the Sony Service Center from being rolled back to GB.  Two weeks from the time I mailed it via UPS.  They sent it back via regular UPS ground.

Hotspot and tethering are now functioning.

Sorry that it didnt work for you. Did you try deleting completely the "wap" APN and leaving the "internet" one alone?

nope, sorry.

I deleted all APNs and created a new one with my operator's data.

When I configure "APN Type" to anything else but "default" or empty, phone doesn't connect at all to network. Configuring it right, tethering didn't work for me either...

Have anyone got any news about it? I read http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/227398#227398 that an update is coming to fix LED problem, but says nothing about Tethering...

I also read on XDA that could be an Android 4 code error, thus affects many devices...

In the same case with my Xperio Pro (Mk16i, yes, it's a "i"), tethering doesn't work with ICS, while it worked with GB.

On the Bouygues network in France.

Please help !!

I am also in the same case (in France, Xperia mini pro SK17i bought 2 months ago, server Free mobile) : no tethering since uploading by PC Sony companion towards android ICS 4.0.4 and at the moment absolutely no answer from the adequate Sony service to my messages or mails and no more by the seller shop. Devices can connect to the hotspot but they do not get Internet access. I hope a quick correction as I need this service when travelling.
