ST18a updated this afternoon to the second release of ICS (was using first release previous to this).
USB Tethering and Wi-Fi Hotspot are no longer working. I can connect and get an IP address but no internet access.
This is real bad since this is a primary use for my phone.
UPDATE: Confirmed same behavior with a second laptop ... I can connect to the Wi-Fi hotspot on my phone but no internet access.
UPDATE: iPad via Wi-Fi Hotspot, same thing, gets IP address but no internet access.

when i say legal action i mean a joint lawsute........
with updates. manufactuieres are NOT alowed to remove feachers. admitadly this was not on perpus but legaly sony have to take action and releace a fix.
remeber teh joint lawsute agaist playstation when sony removed other OS? this is why apple was able to get away with not giving the first apple tv "air play". "the 1g apple tv still does everything it did you you got it." (steve jobes but off the top of my head)
i am actioly apaled at the ics update. they removed alot of ics stuff inplace of their own ie stuff like widgets and the app draw. not the end of the world. i like it in its own way but i id like it better if it mached my sony tablet p.
in doing this other things got acsidentaly lost. you allready know about the over looked hot spot but other things didnt make it like usb otg/host. somthing advertiesed in the fact it has the same modded usb port as the tablet s that takes sonys propriatery usb host adapter (ie the s has a newer os that suports flash drives. 2.3 ofcorce does not suport this nativaly but can if the manufacture adds suport. realy not hard) after installing ics i expected to be able to do all the same things on my pro (as well as arc neo ect) that you couls do with the usb port on the tablet s with the same port.
keyboard/mouse still and allways have worked. but not usb flash drives. sony actily put in the efort to disable this or this might be anuther error and it got unintentionaly disabled/lost.
still due to the same thing as the apple tv they can get away with that one. still not fair as it is native to ics so you can argue that.
i found this

aparently a setting reset (i actioly reflashed my phone using sonys update program (not mobile companion)
and i still have the prolbom.
can any one confirm?
sparkyblaster,
I tried a reflash with SUS and a repair with PCC and then I tried the factory reset. Nothing got Hotspot and USB tethering to work.

Bob H, Does not sound like you got the answers you wanted from this forum and I am beginning to have my doubts as to the technical qualifications of the title "superuser". Can confirm with an unlocked SK17A using a Straight Talk SIM that following ICS install that I no longer have internet connection via hotspot or tether. Repaired, factory reset, resetting APN, etc. have no bearing. Am connected via either to Acer laptop (W7) but am showing "no internet access". All worked fine before with GB. Come on Sony, do not send me to 3rd party ap or rooted backdoor fix to get this function back. Was the SIM supposed to be removed before the update? Really? Does all data on SD need to be cleared? Really? What level of qualified update are we distributing here? Do not reply to me the same that has been replied to others for correcting....I want a real answer. I am sure I can revert but why should I?

@rolyatybot what you need is to check the forum guidelines and FOLLOW THEM
uliwooly,
I sincerely apologize if my comments are taken as being inflammatory or disrespectful. Seems that after all the announcements and having waited for this "promising" release, some things would have been looked into more closely. Lessons have been learned, I will adjust my tone for future forum use if allowed. However, as expected....you do not have a real solution to offer.
you need to calm down and then ask politely and/or start a new thread with your issues and the steps you had follow to fix your issues
I'm sad to confirm that same happens with Xperia Mini Pro update... but I discovered something weird!!
USB/BlueTooth tethering works... but only connected to WiFi Networks!
I mean
Internet -> WiFi Router -> Phone -> USB/BT -> Device WORKS!
Internet -> 3G Network -> Phone -> USB/BT/WiFi -> Device DON'T WORK
I tried it with an laptop via Bluetooth, iPod Touch via WiFi, Parrot Asteroid via USB & BT
It only works as "WiFi Dongle"...
Would be be Sony removing 3G tethering intentionally from ICS? I tried those same devices with a Galaxy Nexus with ICS 4 and worked perfectly.
Can nayone confirm this "second part"?
Hi, I think the problem is the ST18a model.
I have a ST18a (as you) and my tethering screwed up after the update. A friend has a ST18i and it works all right.
Maybe It would be important if people who confirmed their tethering still works say if they model is ST18a or ST18i
Edit: I did the update through PCC without reformatting the SD card

TonyCool,
That was a good discovery!
I wish people would quite recommending action to take that has not be tried and verified to work. It's wasting everyone's time.
I would encourage you to call Sony Mobile Tech support and report the problem. Maybe they need more problems coming in via that way since it appears they pay little to no attention to what is going on here.
Regards,
Bob H
