Have a problem with vibration feedback. When I write a text message the phone vibrates at first, but after a number of characters the vibration dies. The phone stops vibrating when it rings and does not work Sony diagnostic test. To get the vibration alive again I need either to tilt the phone horizontal or shake it. That's not just right..have been trying to do several factory resets but it does not work. It must be a hardware problem?
I had exactly the same issue. In fact I never tried vibration mode on my Z1 compact after purchasing, turned out to be a disaster for me
Today, I noticed it's not working and tried even a factory reset. Nothing worked. Took in to the service centre, they confirmed it's a hardware issue and promised a replacement within 5 days. Now, waiting begins!
Hi,
I also have such issue. This is my 2nd Xperia Z1c (previous one had been returned - screen crackling). The haptic feedback and vibration it self was doing great in the 1st phone. I'm currently waiting for response from local store's personnel about test results of sample z1c phone in their store. Generally I've done everything i could (hard switching off, factory reset, PC Companion repair function, different settings, safe mode, etc). Nothing worked.
I received advice to wait for 4.4 update and check it after. Then decide if it goes for a warranty repair / replace.
BTW. My 1st Z1c had the JDI display. Present one have AOU. I see significant difference. Mostly brightness and battery drain made by screen. It's dark but contrast and black reproduction is better.
I'm not satisfied with SONY's quality check of products after manufacturing.
And I apologize for my bad English.
I'm not using any translator. I'm trying to do my best to improve it.
Best regards
EDIT:
Thanks to professional customer service of my store's personnel (and kindness), I received a replacement. It's amazing, because new Z1c haptic feedback works superb for now, and I have again the JDI Display. I repeat - I have no vibration issue now (firmware 114)
BTW: I was not wrong about the brightness - it's way much brighter than AOU. I'm able now to answer the question " How to recognize JDI display before buying the phone?" You must turn on the phone unfortunately (say tha u want check bad pixels for example ). Then you should apply the red Xperia theme. And now the point of this - AOU's unlock screen is much darker than wallpaper of this theme. JDI's unlock screen is nearly same brightness as wallpaper. Keep in mind to set android brightness in the middle and uncheck the autobrightess.
If you have questions about my experience with whole situation, just ask me.
BUMP
I wrote this to move whole topic to 1st page. I think my edited post message above have important conclusions.
I have the same issue! Here is a link how it is look like: http://youtu.be/hrC7hAZ5OYk . Any idea about is it a hardware or software issue?
Hi,
Currently I have no such issue at all after receiving replacement. For me the conclusion is simple - it's a hardware issue caused by not proper assembly process during manufacturing. Previously i had 2~10 vibration haptic problems a day (shaking the phone temporally was fixing this). Although, my very first z1c (also replaced - screen crackling sound) had no such problem with vibration. So as You see it's a common problem but connected with that single phone you have received (certain series probably).
Btw. The following had no positive or negative effect for frequency of this problem on my phone:
- temperature of the phone;
- battery level
- applications installed
- setting different strength of haptic feedback
- soft or hard reset, factory reset, repair process using PC Companion, Safe mode.
I have only one question: "Why I had to pay more than now (price of the phone just dropped) and take no advantages from having this product till now" This is a question directed to SONY staff. Don't you know sir/madam that the best commercial and promotion for the product is a good opinion from for example: my friend, another user, etc ?
If you have farther questions just ask.
Best regards
thanks for the replay! Then I'm going to send it back!
I'm glad that you found information valuable. Please provide information about "not having this problem" after receiving replacement. It will be helpful for others.
If I may add, I would like to suggest to check haptic feedback after factory reset, because you will probably be doing it before sending back. It's worth to check, just for curiosity.
I ordered a Z1 Compact from O2 and it arrived yesterday (Thursday 8th May 2014).
The vibration didn't work from the first time I powered it on.
I've tried running the vibration test - it failed. I also tried shaking it during this test, at all stages - still no joy.
Hard reset: Didn't fix it.
Update: Didn't fix it
Reinstall update from PC: Didn't fix it
Factory reset: Didn't fix it.
Power down/turn on: Didn't fix it
Safe mode: Didn't fix it
Looks like its completely broken for me. Which is a shame, I'm in love with the device otherwise.
Contacted O2, they're picking up my old one in 1-3 working days and doing a direct swap for a new one. Hopefully I'll have better luck with that one.
I'll let you know how I get on. Appears to be a manufacuring defect/hardware fault.

--------------------------------------
Phone arrived at home today. Will get it up and running when I get home and report back! ~5-6 hours from now.
Update:
New phone works a charm.
To avoid any possible issues I updated the phone before putting the SIM card in or linking any accounts.
Hope that helps - seems to perhaps be a faulty batch?
