Using proxy settings for Wifi

Hi,

I use the Xperia Sola.
I want to use Internet that is meant to be used through manual proxy settings.
I am able to activate Wifi using my router and connect using the original PC (whose connection I input to my router)

But I am unable to access any internet on my mobile phone.
I have tried configuring proxy settings using
Android app: HTTP Proxy Settings

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.credil.proxysettings&feature=search_result.

I was able to punch in manual proxy settings, copying it from the browser on my PC,
but Internet didnt work still.I also tried to configure the same way through the config of the Opera Mobile browser, but to no result.

I have cloned the MAC ID of the original PC on my router already.

Please help.

As I understand, setting proxy is only possible in ICS by default.

I don't know if this can be worked around using any app's unfortunately.

Hi Johan,

Thanks for replying.

After it dawned on me, I also set the phone to use Static IP, and entered the corresponding settings there. After that, I WAS able to connect to internet from my phone, do a little bit of basic browsing.

----------

According to the description of the app:

"While most of the third party ROMs have a Proxy Settings button that works for WIFI as well as 3G, the stock roms do not.  Yet the screen is present in all stock ROMs.

This application just brings up that screen.

This APP should be unnecessary on Cyanogen: the Proxy Settings entry is already on the Wireless screen."

------------

Though, I faced some weird problems on the phone, which I didnt while accessing the same internet through the same router on a PC.

Problems:
-Apps couldnt access internet,

-www.facebook.com, play.google.com - didnt work
while google, bbc.co.uk and some other sites did work, albeit slowly.

-Videos on Youtube didnt load at all (pages opened).

-Once using internet on a particular browser, it couldnt be accessed from any other browser.

I used the Opera Mobile browser primarily, and had also entered the proxy settings in there.

Although, on one occasion, I did successfully access internet through the stock browser too.

Lemme know if you understand what could be happening and how it could be resolved.

Thanks.

PS: some 'squid proxy-caching web server' asks for a username and password while entering any URL for the first time, so that is how I am ascertaining when I was able to really access internet and when sites were simply opened from the phone's cache.

PPS: Few other problems

The live wallpapers (barring the default) either crash the moment they are enabled,
or keep crashing the phone and the apps all the time.

Besides, there is considerable lag faced, once they are deployed.

The PC companion cannot be used on Windows XP (tried on 3 computers), despite the mention (somewhere) that it is compatible with XP Service Pack 3. Either installation fails, or the software isnt able to detect the phone after installation.

What's worse is that, even the internal storage cant be accessed on WinXP, even though the phone shows 'Storage Connected' as well as a removable disk icon appears in My Computer

Hope firmware update (with yummy ICS :smileyhappy:) resolves these.
