Urgent!!! - PCC "backup not compatible"

I've just done a factory reset to make my ICS run more smoothly. Before that I successfully backed up all files relevant to me on PC Companion. However, AFTER the reset I am unable to restore the files!

When I plug my phone in and then click on 'backup and restore', there are no restore items at all in the list. As soon as I plug out my phone, though, I can view the file I restored! When I click it and then proceed to plug in my phone again, this message pops up:

What the hell is going on?! I really need to have at least my contacts restored asap...

I'd be very grateful if anyone could help me!

I can only assume the backup file is faulty and i've lost all my contacts

did you checked your gmail (on your computer)?

I've accessed my gmail account through my browser from my computer, yes! I don't have my phone contacts saved in my gmail account, only my email contacts.

once on gmail > click on contacts, your phone contacts aren't there?

No, just my email contacts. My phone contacts have never been there.

No, I'd saved them all under 'Phone Contacts'
