swipe to unlock does not always work

When my new z3 is locked, I frequently have trouble swiping to unlock the phone. When I try to swipe, I get the nice psychedelic particle trail showing the swipe, but often the phone does not unlock. It can take 3 or 4 attempts to get the darn thing to unlock. It is bad enough that I worry that the phone will simply not unlock no matter how many attempts. Very very irritating. I write firmware for a living. This is a serious bug.

And when I google the problem, I found other users experiencing the same problem.

See http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/help/swipe-issues-t2888154 .

Is there some way to get this problem in the Sony bug reporting system? When is Sony going to fix this?

Passes the diagnostic test for the touchscreen. This is not really a surprise because when I swipe the screen, the psychedelic trail that follows the swipe clearly indicates that the hardware detects the swipe and is basically working fine. However the swipe very very frequently does not unlock the phone.

I seem to have better success unlocking the phone when I swipe with my thumb. That should not be necessary. The swipe mechanism is buggy. Fix it!!

what were you using to unlock the phone if it's not with your thumb? another finger, if so, by any chance do you have long nails?

No, I do not have long fingernails. Very short. I was using my index finger. The phone sees the finger drag always. You can tell by the flashing bubbles that follow the finger. The bug is the fact that a 3 inch swipe at just about any speed does not always unlock the phone. I am not the only customer seeing this. The algorithm for recognizing that dragging the finger across the screen is an unlock swipe is probably complex. Have a software engineer with access to the code take a look at this.
