I'm using PC companion on XP for upgrading to ICS. The upgrading goes straight (downloading and preparing) utill the reboot with usb cable and pressing the back key is needed.
The PC companion open a window, recognizing the phone is booting and asking to do something but the boot in the phone stall to a screenshot showing a recharching battery (the led light is green as expected).
My battery was 100% fully charged when I booted with back key pressed.
If I disconnect and soon reconnect the usb cable I could boot in safe mode (green light on) but lost the connection with PC companion (the phone was training to install another copy of PC companion).
I tried dozen of times always with the same result.
Any help?

I solved the problem using a PC with WindowsXP natively installed.
I used XP in a virtual environment and the implementation of the EHCI USB apparently does'nt support booting.

Try on a pc running windows 7.
Try to use this
SUS ( Sony Update Service) ... download and install it on pc and follow the on-screen instructions http://www-support-downloads.sonymobile.com/Software%20Downloads/Update_Service_Setup-2.11.12.5.exe
or
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/update-service/
Both the links are same

The procedure proposed by SUS is the same of PCcompanion, same procedure, same result:
the boot hang on a recharging battery screenshot.
Furthermore SUS neither recognise that the phone is booting.
The updating of this system has been less troublesome only of flashing the BIOS of my sony vaio z-series without windzozz. That was a real crap.
Anyway the phone was my last try with a Sony product, never again.
The problem with Sony guys is that they are too Roseanne with Bill.
So why they didn't choose Windzozz mobile instead of Android for their smartphones?
Perhaps for fear of doing the same order of Nokia?
An open source mobile OS that upgrade only by using Microsoft and Apple OS.:smileyconfused:
This is a very smart thing, guys.:smileywink:
