There are multiple threads and posts with the same questions and this will NOT going to stop until Sony release a full official statement on this,
Yes, it might be Complex, yes it might be hard to answer but if Sony Developer were able to post a thread on how we get an update starting from the source code to the final product (just before approvals) I think this can be done, it'll be like a second part to From Source Code to upgrade release.
Also if you have another question feel free to post it and I'll add it to this top of this thread, try to make general questions not specific (i.e. when is my SI number will be approved/posted/etc, instead something like, who can we contact to find out if our carrier it's going to release or not the update?)
lol not a lawyer, I just think Sony can do better and that they should give us actual facts and official statements, not the run around but things as they are
I agree uliwooly, but your still a lawyer
Jelly Bean is called project butter for a reason. The main changes are in terms of performance and optimization. So its basically ICS but optimized to run well.
I know upgrading from Gingerbread to ICS was a bigger step for Sony as there are allot of new changes. But from ICS to Jelly Bean it should be really straighforward as there is almost none GUI changes at all. Jelly Bean is smother than ICS, its an optimized ICS as far as I know.
So what I would do if I was Sony is bring as fast as possible people to ICS, even with all the bugs and then send them directly to Jelly Bean upgrade to fix all the issues. Then they get back performance, and speed which is what people complained.
Otherwise they are going to lose allot of customers, because if people have an ugly experience on their phones, they are going to change the phone, and possible to another brand. Sony needs to keep their users on their ecosystem, even if its older phones, they are still on Sony platform.
So they should try to deliver the best possible experience, if your phone works fine, there will no reason to think in changing it to something your friend runs. And when times come you want a new phone which has more features, better camera, etc, you will go with Sony again based on your past experience. OS quality is something Sony should focus. Sony hardware is honestly very lacking if you compare them with other brands, but I went with Sony because its Sony and I like some specific models of Xperia (older) because they are neat, small and still delivers plenty. Sony is not the cheapest around but I don´t care either. I want quality. And this comes from someone that also owns HTC and Samsung phones.
Sony should fix the ICS issues, or try to jump to Jelly Bean directly shocking competition which is still also upgrading to ICS. Imagine if Sony jumps to Jelly Bean basically now, it would really cause a media stream impact and people look Sony with better eyes. Also, since Jelly Bean fixes most issues I read on this thread, it only makes sense and its the smart thing to do. I don´t know if what I said is correct, but from what I read everywhere it runs better than ICS. Based on this I think its lower on harware requirements as opposed to ICS and would run better on current phones. Correct me if im wrong.
I'm really having serious doubts about this "tripple buffering" in JB, I think it would be "burden" for the single core cpu's device. -__-
7. On the subject as 4. Will the Xperia Arc, Play, Neo and Pro will no longer be supported at the end of August? as it will be 18months since they were released Well, Xperia Pro was released, i.e. made publicly available only on October 2011. So 18 months from that ends on April 2013.

I did read this also somewhere.
*edit* (Mini Pro) here you go: http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_xperia_mini_pro-3713.php
and (Pro) http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_xperia_pro-3779.php
*edit2* Unfortunately it's not an official information by Sony, but it's consistent with other news published by different magazines
I really want to know the answer for question 1:
"Who is in charge of approving the SIM Free updates per country?"
My unlocked and SIM free mini pro received after a few many locked ones.
Also, this is a really good question, and I really hope they don't break their promise, and if they break it I'll be more than glad to NOT recommend Sony to anyone, even if a rock asks for my opinion:
"Will Sony fulfill or break the "AT LEAST" 18months software updates commitment/agreement at Google I/O 2011? "
@ Ingo
you might want to double check that link as it's only to the GSMarena xperia mini pro info page
I've edited my post and added the Pro. I did find the same "dates" on different websites.
ok, so your links are regarding the release dates, correct?
