hi all,
I wish someone would give a solution to this problem. I think you are not giving importance because users use instant messaging applications. But I guess that's another big part of who uses it, as in my case.
BR
hi,
I just updated my Z1 Compact to the Google Android 4.4 Kitkat. Now i´m facing some issues, when sending SMS using the Spanish accents on the keyboard these become special characters and it allows me to send only 70 characters per SMS (intead of 160).
I was told to disable the UNICODE keyboard by my mobile service provider, but on my test message settings the UNICODE keyboard doesn´t appear. I was not facing this problem with other Sony models, I believe its some sort of bug with the software.
I wonder if you guys can give me a solution to this issue, as the customer support in Madrid is not able to provide me with a solution for this problem.
Thank you-
This is due to the encoding and how the message application counts the characters.
You can find more information about the different types of encoding and standards here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GSM_03.38
I'm not sure if you will be able to have this work differently using another messaging application but you could download another messaging app just to check.
It does not work. Some applications let me write without changing the number of characters but when I check the sending SMS the spanish accents only appear in vowel e. It takes to the original settings on the keyboard. I think it is due to a software issue.
Please, check it again. I need someone report this problem in the next update.
Thanks.
This is not a problem with your phone but how the SMS standard works. See this thread for example: http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-SP/Write-longer-text-messages/m-p/375907
What your operator means by "disable unicode keyboard" is to set your phone so that you can't write these accented characters with the keyboard. You can do that by changing the language of they keyboard.
Did you update to KK via SUS, PCC or OTA? Or maybe you used flashtool to upgrade your phone with downloaded firmware you found somewhere on the internet?
Have you chcecked:
SMS -> Settings -> Convert special characters to sent more text in every message
or there is no such option?
Hi Rickard
I understand that the message software changes the encoding internally when I use this character. I think you mean that Spanish language is not compatible with 7 bits encoding. It is a phone problem although you say me it is not.
For instance, I can send SMS with my SONY Xperia Neo V and I don´t understand that the Z1 Compact, the best technology, has this problem with the SMS.
I need to know if this issue can be improve in the next update or if you can consider this problem. I´m waiting for an answer, as soon as possible, because my family has 3 Sony Z1 Compact and I am still on time to return these ones to the company as Sony doesn´t give me a solution.
Gikey,
Thank you but this option does not exist.

It exists in my firmware (KK customization for Central Europe).
Can you confirm whether that option existed when you had JB installed?
How did you update yor phone: SUS, PCC, OTA or flashtool?
For example, in firmware 'for commercial and journalist' this option doesn't exist either. When I flashed my phone with this firmware using flashtool I was dissapointed that this option disappeared. Then I flashed my phone with 'Central Europe' version which was customized for phones sold in my region (Poland).
So again, let's start with question: How did you update yor phone: SUS, PCC, OTA or flashtool?
I updated the software from sony page. The official service updated it again. I don´t understand what you mean by those technical terms.
Tell me a site to update it if you consider it is the best option and I´ll try to do it again.
Thanks.
