A cautionary tale

6 months ago when the Xperia Z1 launched, I ordered one. I'd had an Xperia Z on trial and liked the design and simple overlay of standard Android by Sony. The only thing putting me off the Z was the slightly weak screen (improved greatly by the Z1).

Z1 arrived and I promptly put in my SIM and used it keenly. Over time I began to 'hate' my Z1. This high end smartphone randomly rebooted, applications used to crash, the only fix was running SUS and starting again. In the end I took out the SIM, put it in a drawer and waited for KitKat. KitKat arrived, I promptly uploaded and then within 24hrs my phone wouldn't charge or turn on. I couldn't run SUS so it was Sony repair centre time.

A week later I got back a like for like replacement and frankly I'm staggered. It's not rebooted once, it's not had an application crash, it's basically flawless.

In my job I get to use a lot of mobile phones (I currently carry Blackberry Q10, Nokia 925, HTC One and iPhone 5). Up until I got the replacement hardware, it was fair to say the Z1 was the worst experience I've ever had with a mobile phone. Look at the forums, full of advice to run SUS and reflash your OS....something I've never done on all the smartphones I've had.

In conclusion (after 2 weeks of usage), I believe I had faulty hardware from day 1 and my software problems weren't that. My advice if your phone is rebooting randomly or generally behaving pants, get it back to Sony and get a replacement.....I'm much happier now. Slightly_smiling_Face
