Problem with Sony Ericsson Bridge for Mac

Hi,

I installed the Sony Ericsson Bridge for Mac application, but impossible to use it.

It says something like "The application closed in an unexpected way" (I use a French language mac). Sometimes I can launch it for a few seconds though, but then still get the error message.

OK, sorry to hear that, but thank you for trying, it's invaluable input for the hard to find bugs.

I got two theories here, either an easy one or a hard one.

The "not so probable cause but worth a shot" is to delete supporting data:

In your "home" folder, goto Library->Preferences and find this file:

com.sonyericsson.Sony-Ericsson-Bridge-for-Mac.plist

If it exist, delete it.

In your "home" folder, goto Library->Application Support and find the folder

Sony Ericsson Bridge for Mac

If it exist, delete it.

Restart Bridge.

However, the probable cause is that you got something in your iTunes or iPhoto library that causes Bridge to crash. Unfortunately there's not much to do about that right now, but I've filed a bug and will definitely look into it. Hi all,

Here is my global feedback on this issue:

- The software is still not working properly, it's a real bug. Many manufacturers make "bad copies" of their Windows software for the Mac version, it's a shame but it's a fact.

- BUT, after all, these softwares are completely useless with Android phones. We just need to copy/paste files in the Phone, when it's set to MSC mode in Settings/Sony Ericsson/Connectivity

So now I am fine, I just don't use the software, and simply plug the phone to my mac!

Hi,

I have just got a Xperia Arc and also can't sync to iTunes on Mac(10.7.2), it worked better in the pre 1.1 release atleast that was my impression but now i crashes all the time during sync!

Really bad.

Also a note, the music selection method should improve, not just select one buy one or all I should be possible to select a "start" and select a "end" then sync!

Second if masstorage mode is a must(I read in the online help) then the software should tell the user that that, Apple software are easy to use so should SE be right!

Anyway I can help let me know so we get this fixed ASAP(innan jul gärna)

I had the same instant quit problem with the Bridge for Mac software trying to connect an Xperia Ray to a PowerMac running OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) but I've just installed it on my MacBook Air running 10.7.2 (Lion) and it appears to be running fine there.

Hi all,

we are working hard in trying to find the issues here, and I hope we have a handle on them by now.

We haven't been able to reproduce the instant crash issue, but thanks to the log from Lairyliam we got a fair idea of what the problem is. Unfortunately, I don't think there is a workaround for it at this moment, since it seems to be related to corrupted/unusual data in the iTunes or iPhoto library. michal_walker:s post seems to confirm that- (I don't think it's the upgrade, I think it's the fresh iTunes/iPhoto library that helped) Stay tuned for more info soon.

For the people who experience connection issues - the phone isn't recognized when plugged in or you get a connection error dialog, here are some workarounds to try until we get the next update is out:

Try disabling the Auto Start setting:

- In Bridge for Mac, goto "Preferences" and set "When a phone is connected to a computer" to "Do nothing"

- Quit Bridge

- Connect your phone and wait for a short while

- Start Bridge for Mac manually

(The key here is to connect the phone and wait a while and then start Bridge)

Try both connection modes

The phone can connect to the computer in two different modes: Media Transfer or Mass Storage mode. Both modes are supported by Bridge, so if one doesn't work, try the other.

- Make sure your phone is disconnected

- In your phone goto Settings->Sony Ericsson->Connectivity->USB Connection mode.

- Try both options (Media transfer mode or Mass storage mode) to see if one works better than the other.

And to mlaajanen:

You can select several by shift-clicking in the list and press "Mark selected/Unmark selected" in the upper right corner of the list (We are working on improving this UI....)

And no, Mass Storage isn't a must, you can use Media Transfer (I think this was a temporary limit for Android phones in the old Media Sync)

Also, could you please tell me a bit more about your crashes? You get application crashes while you sync? If you wouldn't mind could you describe in a bit more detail what is happening? Which version of the software are you using? Any particular media kind that causes the problems?

Hi,

I'm having the same problem as described above with my Xperia X10. I attempt to sync with an iTunes playlist, which it manages to do partially before quitting unexpectedly.

Now, every time I try to connect the phone the application will either do nothing, or show "Detecting phone..." for a while before going back to how it is with nothing connected. Now, when I can get it to detect the phone (which seems to be only on the first run after deleting preferences) and connect to it, pushing the "Sync" button causes it to quit. I've tried deleting preference files, reinstalling the application, various combinations of connecting the phone and opening the application, removing synced files and starting fresh... everything mentioned in this thread. I'd had this problem before and given up trying to use the program, but after seeing that an update was available (1.1(3023)) I hoped the problem had been fixed.

I know you're aware of the issue and working on it, I just thought I'd give you the details of my crash in the hope that it helps.

Hi!

I have just got my new Arc S last week and apparantly, the Bridge is giving me problem. I had tried re-download from sony website 4 times and problem still persist. Once I click on 'Sync' button to sync music, immediately the program shuts down giving me this report:

Hi all,

The 1.2 release is out and it should hopefully solve all connectivity issues - meaning you should be able to connect any supported phone in either Media Transfer or Mass Storage mode and have it properly recognized by Bridge. Let me know otherwise!

@michjee and others: This is a known bug that we unfortunately found out about after the 1.2 version was sent for release. It appears when trying to transfer files in mp3 format which contains malformed metadata (song title, album name etc). Possibly it may also be related with data that uses the cyrillic alphabet. As a workaround for now, try experimenting with selecting fewer or different song to see which ones causes problems. Often it may be just one or a few songs that don't work. This will be fixed in the next release, sorry for the trouble.

@Lairyliam: Could you tell me if your problem has been resolved after the 1.2 update? We added some safeguards to protect from what we saw in your log, but since we couldn't reproduce it, it's hard to tell if we succeeed.

Hi,

I just installed Sony-Ericsson-Bridge-for-Mac on a macbook air for the first time (running macos 10.7.3).

When I connect to my xperia-mini I get the following stack trace. It happens after about 5 seconds after the program regognizes my android device. That means I cannot conneect without crashes 😞
