Poor battery life

Poor battery life

Hi guys!

I have read that some people have issues with their battery life on their Z3 compact as well.

But unfortunately none of these issues applied to me 100%.

I got my Z3C in January, so I have been using it for a few months now.

At first I had no issue at all. The battery life was sensational, exactly how I expected it to be after reading all the reviews.

With almost every setting on (mobile data, wifi, bluetooth, push-up) I managed to stand up to 2 days, and I consider myself a heavy smartphone user.

But then I moved to England (from Austria). I changed my provider. From that time on, my battery life got poor.

It hardly cannot stand a full day anymore. Although I take care that I don't do too much things on my phone anymore.

I really don't know what the problem is.

And I couldn't manage to find any solution that would suit my problem.

I hope you guys could give me any advice.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

It's hard to pinpoint what the cause can be. If you have not done it yet, you can always check the battery consumption via Settings > Power management > Battery usage. This list will show what apps/functions that have consumed much battery since the last charge, so check the list when you have around 5% left of the battery.

Perhaps you can also take a look at the following FAQ topic to see if you find any tips:

Hi Hampus,

thanks for the quick response!

Yeah I've tried most of the tips. But I don't really want to turn mobile data for example on and off all the time. I had Bluetooth, Wifi and 3G on all the time in the beginning.

My problem is, how could the battery life drop so quickly.

I did a factory reset a couple of weeks ago. It seemed that it solved my problem in the beginning, but after a few days it went back to normal.

If it's an app I'm using, it should be showing that on the settings page right? As you can see, there is nothing unusual, at least not for my eyes.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the screenshots. I cannot see something abnormal from these, but it looks like your phone has been awake pretty much. Did you also tap on "Screen" to see how long time the screen had been active?

One thing that you could do is to open the cover for the nano SIM card holder, here you will find a yellow button. Hold this button down for 3 seconds (you can use a paper clip e.g) and your device should vibrate and power off > Without powering the phone on, connect it to the charger and let the phone charge to 100% to see if this can help.

As a general rule what would be the expected SOT from a full charge?

I know that this is dependant on apps' running/connectivity etc, but it would be useful to know the parameters.

The best I've seen on my Z3C is 6.5 hours SOT with heavy usage.

Thanks

HI

I have only had my Z3 compact less than two weeks and am yet to see the 'amazing' battery life that everyone talks about.

Looking at what apps use my battery I am inpressed how littel the screen uses however 'android os' seems to use a lot of my battery as well as 'google play store' but only sometimes which is weird.

I have tried turning things off but some things like google play store location services turn back on a second after turning them off?? And i am not sure how to turn off things that android os uses as I am not sure what my phone needs running and what it doesnt? is this the reason for my battery not being as good as advertised or am i just expecting too much?

thanks

@UkJoe

You have WiFi on and it seems that you have multiple apps that are constantly uploading/downloading data, WiFi will drain your battery really really fast.

How is one to know whether there is an actual problem with their battery? Is there any way of testing it? Can we take it to a Sony shop for example?

I was pretty shocked with the supposed 'amazing' battery life when I purchased the Z3 Compact last December (2014), by late evening I almost always had to charge it.

Yet when I talked to others who also have the handset and also describe themselves as 'heavy users' they say their Z3 Compacts easily lasts two days.

So how do we test our batteries? I've even thought about getting a new battery and seeing how that fares, but then read you cant even change the battery on the Z3 Compact. Very surprised, having moved over from iPhone only to find Sony are also going down the restricted options road...

Hi there, unfortunately I have not found a solution yet, so I sent it to Sony just a few days ago. I hope that solves the problem. Additionally I had another problem with the camera...
