I've had my sony ericsson for just on a year now. When i first got it, was fantastic!! In the past month if I browse facebook or just use my phone, it turns itself off. I took it back into optus shop and they sent it away to be fixed. They sent it back saying that its out of manufacturers waranty and that its just wear and tear.. I've got to say I'm very disappointed in Sony. I have a two year contract with Optus and I dont even have a working phone for the whole two years?! Not Happy Jan.. Has anyone else had the same problem??
Given what you have tried to do to resolve the issue I am really only left with advising you to have the handset sent for repair.
Hi, I have had my sony ericson x10 since Jan and have been having the same problems.
I am now waiting for phone number 3 to be delivered !!
First time I only had the phone 2 weeks, would not hold any charge, had new battery first, then a new phone.
In the last 3 weeks I have noticed the handset is getting warm and every now and then I hear a buzzing noise and the phone turns itself off.
It has been happening daily so yesterday I rang orange up [ have insurance] and they rang a diagnostic and said will send replacement.
I asked if the phone has faults and he advised yes it does.
person was not very customer friendly to be honest and said as a gesture of goodwill will not charge £15 for replacement [which they do apparently if you have more than one!] I said if the phone is faulty, has not been damaged by me then I should not have to pay.
As I type this my replacement phone has just arrived !
Lets see how long this lasts....
I am not impressed and I don't think I will ever come back to Sony Ericsons or recommend after this trouble.
Time will tell.
Hope you get your phone sorted.
Just found my report from the service centre.
Fault details:
phone just dies after 20 mins after its off the charger. tryed an update and closed apps that were not being used. made no difference
Repair details:
Device is out of manufacturers warranty and has been assessed as BER due to wear and tear. Cost of repair exceeds cos of unit. Unit returned unrepaired. (HN2)
Yea. I got onto Optus and they waved the upgrade fee of 600 bucks so i just went in there and got a new samsung galaxy s2... FANTASTIC highly recommend it  good luck. hope you get urs sorted
I also have the same problem since the last software update.
As soon as it is taken off the charger and seems to be on battery power, the system shuts down randomly - no specific time, could be 5 mins up to a couple of hours - and will not reboot.
Before it shuts down, the screen shows at the top left something along the lines of 'Android system'.
When switching back on, it finds the SIM and the network then changes to no network and no SIM and shuts itself down.
Place it back on the charger and switch on whilst it is charging and it is fine - even though the baterry is fully charged.
This did not happen until the software update.
It is quite annoying to have a phone shut down for no apparent reason - but it does seem to be the software that is doing it.
Is Sony Ericcson investigating this issue as it seems to be affecting many users, not only of the Xperia X10 range but other Xperia phones, as Sony Ericcson modify the Android operating system to suit themselves instead of allowing the native Android system to ber installed?
Many thanks
Darren
I have exactly the same problem and "solution" from the retailer - not our problem you need to contact SE. This I have now done and I await their response which I'll feed into this thread.

Hi,
I've got the same problem with my 1 1/2 year old X10. It randomly shuts off for no apparent reason. Fully charged or not. The other night it shut off while on the charger. I reset and did the software repair through PC companion and that didn't help. I did the CHAT with sonyerricson yesterday. The phone is out of warranty and the only help they suggest is to return it for repair. My service provider suggests that they might be able to roll-back the last upgrade. Overall, I'm not impressed with sony erricson or the android system. I think my replacement will be an Iphone. At least it's handsfree.
Here's the followup to my earlier post on this problem. I returned the handset to Sony Erricson. It was returned to me within the time they had said and it is, as I write, working okay. Fortunately I had a spare phone so was able to use that for the time my Xperia was with SE. I shall persevere until my contract allows me to change the phone in about three months. The salesman in the Orange shop hinted that I maybe able to get an iPhone on my current contract. We'll see but it will be bye-bye Sony Erricson.
I bought two X10s (one for me and one for my wife). Both are having the same issue that everyone else seems to be having. It only started happening in the last 3-4 months that I can remember. Like dar1971 mentions, when my phone shuts down, I turn it back on and it finds the Simm and Network, then says no Simm found and shuts down, giving the Android message as it shuts down. I can do this a number of times in a row until I finally give up and leave the phone powered down. Usually when I get to a spot that I can charge the phone, it will charge up a bit and then be fine again. When the phone shuts down (which is completely random), I can have up to 60-70% battery charge.
I have also noticed that my phone will get extremely hot.
Is there a Moderator that can comment on the fact that so many people are having this problem? What is SE doing about it?
I have switched my wife to an old iPhone (which kills me) that my brother loaned her. We still have a year left on our contract and I am at the point that I am going to toss this and pay the $600 to buy a phone off contract.
Also would like to note that I sent an email to SE about two weeks ago with only an automated responses. That isn't stellar customer service.
