This error showed up when I was trying to upgrade the system for z3c. I tried installing the engine manually (Sony_Mobile_Update_Engine_Setup-2.15.2.201501291105.exe) but also failed. The error message said "Access control error (inherit): Invalid filesystem path missing".
Any idea on how to fix this? Don't want to miss the upcoming Lollipop.
Remove any JAVA runtime, JRE Home existing from your machine. restart and install again. Works for me.
That's what happens when developers use their own install programs and not for example Windows Installer....
The issue is that the setup program tries to create folders in a different location than the one provided by the user n the window. Doesn't matter where I wanted the program to be installed and what was the folder name - the setup program tried to create folders always on my root folder of my C drive.
Anyways - the solution for me was:
1. manually create folders C:\Sony Mobile\Update Engine
2. start the installer again
and it worked straight away!
That was very frustrating.
@Sony - please repair this stupid issue in your installer..or better - please fix PC Companion first so noone was forced to use this additional update utility
Many thanks, it worked after removing JAVA
